Oh Crap! Gotta Love Iowa....
 

Got 8" of rain last night and have water running over the dams on all 5 ponds on the property. The big 7 acre pond has an emergency spillway and has a river running over it. Even with this spillway the water is within a foot of going over the top of the dam. The bedding area below the dam is completely underwater and it's a mess. I got a feeling I'll have to use one of those fishing rigs for my bow for deer hunting this fall if this keeps up. In the 10 months we've lived here: ice storm ending in 8 days without power (all electric house); 93 inches of snow when we average 20; 2 tornados; and now 8" of rain in one evening resulting in this.

I've whined now and feel so much better (yeah, right). Got to get back to pumping water out of the basement.

P.S. The rain that hit here is now on it's way to St Louis and I personally sent it there because I was taught to share. lol

Well the wife and I went to the big city of Des Moines for a medical appointment. We were gone 4 1/2 hours and the pond is no longer running over the emergency spillway. But, it's been cloudy and humid all day so we could get another round tonight. When we left, we noticed that the rain had eroded all the dirt around the sweet corn and beans and now they are all laying on their sides with the roots exposed. Losing my peaches n cream sweet corn hurts! We have an annual ritual of taking a small grill to the garden and grilling sweet corn right off the stalk. Well, back to damage control...I gotta get all the carpet out of the basement.

Thank ya bro, the Serenity Prayer aint helpin a lot right now. After getting home from the city, we've both been bustin butt getting stuff cleaned up. Another month or six I might be caught up.
