My encounter with a big bear this past weekend!!
 

Well This guy decided to help me cook steaks on the grill at camp this past weekend, instead of eating all the food that was in our feeder! Hope you enjoy!


O.k. now we are starting to get to close of freinds my bear!!LOL

I mean it thats close enough!!

That was about 7 yards there...we were having a good conversation about the chicken bones he was eating! Schultzy bud I was thinking about ya in my close encounter and how much you would of loved to be there! We actually saw 6 different bear at the feeder but this was the one time I decided to have a camera and pistol in both my hands!LOL

He was the 2nd biggest of the weekend! There was one that was bigger than him. I did not see him but my brother-in-law said it was 6" higher than that one![:-]
Texas' keep in mind my semi was drawn and loaded with 9 rounds ready to strike!;)however i would lie if i did not tell ya the hair was standing up on my arms!

Can someone explain to me how you are judging that bear's weight with nothing in the picture for scale?

I'm curious, I've seen quite a few bears here in PA and have been a little too close to some of them and I don't see a 300+lb bear? especially after hearing that another bear 6" taller at the shoulder was also there as well.

The ears just disproprtionately big for the bears head for it to be 350# or more? Or maybe I just think Tim's a wuss and the thing is the size of a $20 Boyd's bear and he's overreacting with his 6 shooter? :D

I'll try and explain some Matt. 1st of all Matt his ears are on radar because he knows somethings up. If he wasn't them ears would be out to the side.

1. Look at his front shoulders and chest, very thick!
2. His eye's are tiny and far apart.
3. Look at the distance between his gut and the ground, not much there and that will shrink even more.
4. His head is a block!

Might not be bigger. Who knows!

My dads bear was 7' head to toe and weighed 185lbs. It was all legs and nothing else. The next year my cousin shot a 7' bear and it weighed 398lbs. Bear are weird that way.

I could be wrong too on his weight but either way thats a dandy bear Tim seen.

I'm with you, Matt. People scoff at other hunters.....laughing at them....saying they don't ask fora maturebuck's birth certificate.....

......and in the same breath they'll tell you they can discern adifference in bears (with no reference)estimate his weight, length, height, etc...

Well guys Im not real knowledgable when it comes to bears He looked big for the 2 hours I watched him. I was told by other camps around that there is a 600#'er there and he was there before I arrived and they said 6" taller on the back than that bear. I know he was 300# i think I can judge that how much over I don't know but i was glad to have him around for dinner!
And Matt I'm not a wussy I had 9 shot's in that .40!:D6 shooters are for wussys!;)

Great bear! Great pics! Im sick of seeing and looking at bears though ;). Too many on our property this year. I need to get some bear hunters to run their dogs through our property before season.

I am far from an expert on bear and I can tell that he is a big one. Kudos to you for hanging out that close and getting those pics.

That looks to be a 225 lb sow by the taper on the front legsand the nose to ear and ear toear are not really close to the same in length. looks to have had a pretty good winter coat (puff ball) which always makes them look much bigger.

Nice bear! Little too close for comfort :D! Hard to judge the size from the picture though. It's certainly a healthy creature, that's for sure. Got some girth to it.I gave up on my feeders. Bird feeders for the squirrels, deer feeders for the bears. Ain't no wat to fight a war :D!

What, those trees don't help with scale? Come on! I'll guarantee that bear is at least 300lbs, easily. He might even be pushing 400lbs.I can't guarantee his skull is P&Y, but I'd bet borrowed moneyhe's over 300lbs.;)
