Fair chase?
I keep reading about these high fenced hunts. No one seems to have any problems shooting pigs in a pen,so why not save the tax payers some cash and go shoot your self a horse. No fences and as fair chase as your going to get.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/07/wild.horses.euthanasia.ap/index.html The mount would most likley need a western setting but it would not take any more space than say a Zebra. |
RE: Fair chase?
Sorry Jim I am saving for an Elphant hunt;)

RE: Fair chase?
If they could set me up with a French buyer for the meat, it could be pretty fun[8D]

RE: Fair chase?
If you put horses in the same category as other trophy's a wild horsehunt should cost a small fortune.
Look at the fact that there are only 30-40 thousand spread over ten states so they are more rare than a mountain lion. Very tough terrain and inhospitable weather make a D.I.Y.S. hunt difficult at best. Most are found on private land so fee would likely be expected. Then theres packing one out, a chorebest shared withsome close personal friends . I guesspaints could be like Cinnamon bears and considered a great score. I'm not sure about aging a horse on the hoof but I'm positive that a localhoof hunterwould point you in the right direction.[:o] Another target of opportunity for you super slam seekers.;) |
RE: Fair chase?
Of course the downside to having that fewhorses over such large areas is thatthe typical hunter will likely see few if any wild horses during the course of their hunt. That will lead tocharges of mismanagement levelled againstlocal DNR's, proposals for mandatory QHM programs, and criticisms of any efforts to expand the horse seasons or expand the types of weapons that can be used to harvest them[:o]

RE: Fair chase?
A zebra looks like a striped horse[:@] ohh nevermind

RE: Fair chase?
I'm thinking baiting wild horses would not only be ethical, but morally just the right thing to do.
Ifhorse huntingcatches on just think of the time savings hunting them behind a low fence be.;) |
RE: Fair chase?
I like the idea of being able to shoot them out of helicopters or dropping bombs on them too, because of the rough terrain involved.

RE: Fair chase?
Hmmmm.... horse hunting? Maybe they could do a contract with Friskies or Purina and have them pay for the meat. They could push it as All Natural Organic Proteen. Who wouldn't pay a few extra cents for something like that for Fluffy or Fido or Tiger or Garfield? We could also put it in Soup Kitchens, you know, kind of like Hunters and Farmers and Horses Feeding the Hungry. Wilbur??? How about Mr. Ed? And look at the benefit of tuning your bow for Elk season. Would a mechanical be unethical for shootin' Mr. Ed?

RE: Fair chase?
I was thinking, justto make the best use of your time and travel money a guy could make this a combo hunt, wild horses and free range bison, the kinda hunt that life time memories are made of.;)

RE: Fair chase?
You're all in trouble if Raquel Welsh gets hold of this horse hunting stuff :D! They were exporting mustang meat to Europe. and she put an end to that! Apparently, it's the perfered meat over there because of Mad Cow).Europeans. Go figure!
