Exploiting Rubs and Scrapes with Trail Cams...w/ pics

For the last two years I've gotten to know a couple bucks in my hunting areas very well. By strategically using trail cameras I have been able to narrow down what I think a buck's core area is. This information cupled with my knowledge of the surrounding land allows me to implement a seasonal hunting strategy...ex: Hanging early season stands near the exit routes of sanctuaries...Hanging stands in various funnels withinthe bucks core area for the rut...and lastly hanging stands in a low pressure areaI assume he will be holed up in after gun season forlate season hunts. All this information hinges upon my ability to get the photograph of a mature buck so my question is...
-- In what type of area and what specific dates do you get the most pictures of bucks over scrapes or rubs..? Any info is appreciated
--PS: I'm in PA what do you think he would have scored?

I get the bulk of my buck pics the last week of Oct to the first week of Nov, period. I locate my cam on the edge of "my beautiful 14 acre thicket".;)I don't set my cam over scrapes or near rubs, so I can't say about that.I'm in SE Pa, and I think that buck in the picscores about 125".

I don't set my cam over scrapes.....so I can't help you, there.

That buck looks exactly like the one I saw in Rob's woods, last fall. I originally pegged him at 130" but later amended it to 125".

I'd say he was somewhere in between.....and I hope he's bigger and you get to take a photo WITH him;)

Good luck.

Glew,

I'm from Ill. and have just started focusing on rub lines. In 2005 I harvested a 4 1/2 yr. old 140" 8 pt. off of his rub line. I did this using a trail camera also. I found his rub line at a cut cornfield and followed it about 200 yrds. back into blowed over timber. I did this in the middle of the day. I hung the camera and caught this buck using this rub line trail about 20 min before dark two of the three days that I had the camera in place. I then set up on this buck and killed him the first evening hunting the stand. I shot him 60 yrds from his bed. I really start paying attention to rubs here right in the middle of the "Oct. lull" here in Illinois. The few days before Halloween are magical for hunting rub lines here. I hope some of this info helped.

Oh yeah, and your deer, I'm going to say 127 -128.
