What do your bucks look like now?
Just curious to see how far along your bucks are right now guys.
I'd love to see any that you guys are seeing now, and I'm also specifically interested in seeing any pics that you guys may have from last year, showing a buck this time of year and then again once the same buck has come out of velvet and fully developed. I was able to glass quite a few this past weekend, and also have quite a few pictures and I'm curious to see how developed they are elsewhere in comparison, and if anyone has pics from last year showing how much more we can expect them to grow before shedding velvet. Anyone have any pics to share? Let's see what you have running around!! Picture below was taken last night from one of my favoriteglassing spots on the property. It's 320 yards tothe food plot you can see in the distance (the mowed area). I also use the .223 to thin the woodchuck population in the horse pastures, but the 14x really helps to zoom in on the bucksto see what kind of headgear they have as well. I watched 8 deer enter the field last night right into that plot, all within 15 minutes or so.5 of them had some sort of headgear [8D]. ![]() |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
I've seen a couple of Bucks that are already as wide as their ears and definitely showing promise.
It seems around here July is a big Growth month. Dan |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
Here are a couple I got nothing special yet I think these will be rather small. What do you think?
![]() ![]() Now these were taken on June 1st so they had and have alot of time to grow! |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
Not looking good so far this year. Last year the growth was much farther along and I attribute this to the longer winter season this year.

RE: What do your bucks look like now?
I just got the cam out this weekend..Lots of dead bucks on the side of the road lately. It appears some of the bucks are a few weeks behind the others.. From what I've noticed in the passed....our bucks in Michigan are not fully developed until Late July...
I love that shot of the whistle pig, groundhog,woodchuck....Great idea for a pic! |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
I saw 4 tonight.... Two of them were yearlings one was nice and the otherwas a "gagger" :DI am going to set a cam up on them tomorrow....

RE: What do your bucks look like now?
Tim:
I think that buck in your second picture is bigger than you might think. He's not a yearling, and has some pretty good growth for a month ago. I only have 2x bucks so far this year that are bigger than him, and my bucks on camera have 2-4 weeks of growth on that guy. Buckeye, can't wait to see what you have brewing. ;) |

[/blockquote] We had to run out to the farm tonight so we did some glassingof the usual haunts. Guess who we seen?? :DHe isa little past the G4 and it looks like he is going to haveG4 on his right side this year. Looks like it is about an inch so far. Theleft side G4is a couple inches. Tim [/blockquote] Good god Tim, that isa stud..............and just think, he's got 2x months to grow! |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
That makes a bit more sense. [8D]
I figured Tim had him tied to a tree with an IV of miracle grow plugged directly into him. :D |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
I went to check my cameras yesterday. I forgot the key to unlock one of them from the tree so I couldn't get it open, and the other one is having some "issues" where it likes to continuously take a photo every 1 minute until the memory card fills up or the batteries die from the flash going off several hundred times. I'm going to have to look at it more closely and find out what is wrong with it. I'm sure the deer must love the light show it's putting on for them all night.
My other two cams aren't going out until this weekend. So to sum this up, I have nothing to add to this thread. |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
The bucks around here look like they are 90% developed. I have already seen two bucks that would enter the 100" range and one stud that I passed on last year, glad to know he made it. That deer is already well above his ears and I call him tower. He is only about 14 to 15" wide and it seems like it goes straight up with some mass. Already a 9 point again this year with really nice browtines.

Some look like this:
![]() Others like this: ![]() But my brother did see a bigger buck eating in a cornfeild last week and my cousin has pictures on his digital camera of a monster thats way past his ears. |
RE: What do your bucks look like now?
Most of the ones I've seen are big enough to get a rough estimate of how they'll look in the fall. Big ones are nice, little ones are still small. I saw one smallish one that looked very far along.

RE: What do your bucks look like now?
These are my most recent pics that took place at the dates listed in the last couple weeks. I have seen some bucks that are nearly 70-80% grown though so they are putting on the bone quickly! Can't wait until October 1st!

RE: What do your bucks look like now?
I agree with JoeRE. Bucks in my area usually have their full potential made obvious by mid july and are simply continuing to harden and shed their antlers by september 1st-15th.

RE: What do your bucks look like now?
I just saw a nice buck coming out of my driveway! I saw him last year as a 2-3 pointer with large main beams. Today his main beams were even bigger and he has knobs on both antlers that are already beginning to split and grow more tines. I don't know alot about antler development so I have no idea what he will look like this year. But I do have a little stand right behind my house just in case he turns out to be a nice buck.
