How to fix it??
I shot for about 20 min just a while ago before I leave to go to dinner and I was terrible. All over the target sometimes and then darn close to where I wanted a few times and maybe once or twice where I actually wanted it. What I saw mostly was my arrows going left. Is this torque? I shot Sunday and hit bulls eye first 3 shots and put it away. Have not shot until today. If it is torque, how do I stop it?? How can I tell if it is torque??

Stop shooting for 7 days;)

ORIGINAL: Germ Stop shooting for 7 days;) It is more than likely some torque you are imparting on the grip. It's frustrating for me to know someone has a problem and be too far away to work on it in person. I think Swamp is pretty close isn't he? Have him watch you shoot and give you his 2 cents worth. You really should just let the bow set in your hand don't grip it! Also concentrate on Aiming and let the shot just happen. If you are punching that trigger you can get lefts and rights from slight flinches in anticipating the shot;) Hard to say without watching you. Dan |
RE: How to fix it??
ORIGINAL: Germ Stop shooting for 7 days;) Make sure I am loose and not squeezing anything. Just shooting the arrow as soon as the pin is "close". Basically you stop trying to be so precise with your aim and just relax and let arrows fly. Sometimes it is amazing how the groups tighten up when I am not even "trying". Pick a bigger target. Instead of the x I will just worry about getting it in the "pie plate". This also keeps me from "trying to hard" and makes me relax. But when those remedies do not work: A non-immediate remedy that always works is taking some days off shooting and spending that shooting time with my wife and/or daughter. It gets my mind off of shooting and the next time I shoot I am much more relaxed and loose. |

RE: How to fix it??
I used to spend a lot of time out East, PA, VA, W. VA. Definitely some pretty country in the Allegheny Mountains. I actually had my interest in Deer and Deer Hunting sparkedwhile in PA on a job with Dad back in the mid 60's, He was doing some test coring for a Dam project some where near Huntington, PA. We had very few deer here in IL at that time.
Those days roaming the mountainsides watching deer sparked a flame inside methat has never died. Dan |
RE: How to fix it??
It could be you just SUCK.:D
Nah, we all have bad days. When You're having one... set the bow down and walk away. It's probably a torque, peaking, dropping the arm or something. It's not that there couldn't be something wrong with your set up... but I think it's just a bad day. The best thing you could probably do would be to step up to 10 feet from the target and just shoot blind bails with your eyes closed. Just concentrating on back tension and pulling through the shot. 30 minutes of that will definitely help your form and shots down the line. If we all did it every day we shoot before we try to hit a bullseye, we'd be a lot better off. |
RE: How to fix it??
it seems it always turns out to be operator error. Usually a couple of days & we figure out what we're doing wrong. Although there are on the rare instances, mechanical screw ups.

thanks david, I know the bow is fine, it was just a bad and very hot day here in Va, 98 degrees with humidity that could choke a buzzard off a gut wagon.

RE: How to fix it??
Stay relaxed...put it away for a week or so....its like golf....pull the clubs out 5 times a year and shoot 36...
Watch your grip and relax your hands...step back and remember the basics that you know so well...try not to think too much...let your instincts that you have developed over the years take you to the target... See ya bud!! |
RE: How to fix it??
Grip it gentle, like a .38 Special song, "Hold on Loosely........Don't let go...."
