Well like a few have said make the best of it Brian. He's retired and enjoying life to its fullest. No more cold weather for him. He's put his time in and now he's ready to enjoy whats left of it.

Sorry for the loss. He'd feel proud if he seen this thread you made of him!! Kudo's to you my friend.:)

Brian,
I think you have to accept that he is at a stage in his life where hunting isn't as high on the priority list as it is for you. Over the years, I've lost ALL of my old hunting buddies to various things, from moving away, to getting married and losing one's balls, to just not wanting to hunt anymore. I don't like it, but it's part of the cycle. My Dad, similar to yours, hunted with me for years only because he didn't want me to have to go out alone. When I went exclusive to bowhunting, I hunted a couple seasons with him, until he said he didn't really enjoy it anymore. I don't know if I was relieved or disappointed, but life went on. Maybe you can cash in on him being in FL and go down there and get some hog-hunting in, maybe even get him out to kill a hog or two. Where one door closes, often times another opens. Enjoy your week with your Dad-in-law, and wish him the best of fun and good times in FL, because that's where he wants to be.

That pic certainly captures a moment, and those are the moments that we have to cherish, because we don't get many of those proud, excited, happy moments that will ever compare. As Schultzy said, I'm sure he'd be proud and honored that he's had this much of a POSITIVE impact on you.

Schultzy said it best. It won't make you miss him any less, but hey he is happy and doing what he wants to do. All you can do is enjoy your hunts and share your stories with him when you talk to him. I'm sure he'll appreciate hearing all of your successes.

Yeah MW74
- I dated a girl for 4 years during high school and after...
Her Dad and I become great hunting and fishing buddies, as we had great times with many memories!
She used to get so mad at me when I went to their house, as her Dad and me spent countless hours talking about the outdoors.
She would pout in the living room and stomp around the house saying I was only dating her to get to her father (funny sh*t).
Unfortunatley when we parted I lost a good friend, but not the memories.
Good luck Bud!
