I popped my cherry on a 35 yarder....

I had just sighted my 30 and 40 yrd pins and was shooting "tweeners" at 35 and nailed this my second shot. By the sound of it I thought I had missed the target completely. I walked up to see this!

Check ou the carbon splitting...and the knock pierced! With a field tip!

A perfect line! Oh, and yes, that is a couch cushion on 4 bales of hay as my target! Works on all tips!

Do you think an aluminum would have split?

Nice....Confidence is something that can only be earned through practice. It can't be bought.

The first time I did this I was as excited as Heck, couldn't believed it and saved the arrows. After the first time you then get pissed off because you're busting arrows. Ive done it 3 times in the last year and everytime it costs me $$$. Congrats on the shot, doing that at 30 + yards is a great accomplishment.

I think everybody i know, including myself;)do this and keep their arrows the first time. Then, after that, they start getting a little frustrated [:@]

Yep, I saved the arrows! I have had arrows deflect or spear a fletch but never had two very close to being the exact shot. I was amazed at the fact that it pierced the nock and kept its line directly down the shaft. I was also amazed at how the carbon split and held the arrow like it did.

It was a $6 dollar arrow, no biggie, but its valued alot more to me now.

The funny thing is that I was having a problem grouping my 30 and 40 yrd shots, and the second shot of a "tweener" had these results.

If it happens again, Im going to slow down my practicing...Im down to only 9 arrows...and two needed reletching due to similar shots that split a vane.

Im just wondering what an aluminum would do. Anyone do this with an aluminum?

Might be...LOL. But total cost of my "block"= $0. And yes the cushion is completely portable...at least to my other ranges with hay bales. I even had a full lip of Grizzly...so maybe I was in my redneck phase!

Yes i have done it with aluminum's. It kinda splintered the shaft in the shape of a lighting bolt down the side.

Yup, aluminum splits, too. And as Siman said, it is always a funny zig-zap pattern down one side. Very hard to separate them, usually. I haven't doneit since I switched to Uni-bushing aluminums (XX78) many years ago. The Uni-bushing maymake the alignment for a robinhood that much more critical, as well as strengthening the rear of the shaft.

Nice shooting! Now don't do it again!;)

Nice shooting! Like others have stated, when you do it with aluminum arrows they have a zigzag split.
