How big?
What size animal are you holding out for this season? A P&Y buck? B&C? Any buck that presents a chance?
I am hunting some new ground this year, as well as my usual stomping grounds. After seeing some sheds and sign on the new place, I'd like to say its going to be B&C or bust, but I know the odds. So its probably going to take an 8pt or better, outside the ears for me to shoot. What about you? |
RE: How big?
I've never broken 100" with the 3 bucks I've killed with a bow. I will hope for more but I'll shoot 100".
|
RE: How big?
Ideally yes, in Pa I'm going to hold for a P&Y, but if it's a tad under I'll still be content. However, when I hunt Alberta, it's min P&Y or it doesn't get killed. If you kill a buck under that, it cost's you $300.QDM if you will.;):D:D

RE: How big?
I'd be holding out too if I was you after seeing them sheds you found!:D
As for myself 130" and no less. I'll eat my tag before I shoot one smaller then that. I've got pics of a 150" buck from last year on my camera but I'm not sure if he made it through the winter or not. Time will tell when I get the camera up or If I happen to see him before that. If he is around I'll most likely try and hold out for him for a while being he should be in that 170" range this year. We'll see I guess. |
RE: How big?
I’m going to wait for a world class half rack
|
RE: How big?
ORIGINAL: rybohunter I’m going to wait for a world class half rack Actually I am always looking for an animal that will scoreP&Y minimum regardlessof species. It doesn't always happen, but it is usually a fairly attainable goal. It gives me something to shoot for!;) Dan |

RE: How big?
Anything that will put me near the top of the local buck pool.110" should get me there.
Standards will increase/decrease with the amount of hunting time that I can come up with. Right now, it's not looking good. If I can hit the 120 hour mark, I'll be lucky. |
RE: How big?
I will more then likely look for a nice 2.5 year old or older.

1st legal deer that gives me the shot I want to take
|
RE: How big?
Anything legal with a bow,as this will be my first year hunting with a bow. I will not shoot anything under 8 points with a rifle. I am in SC.
|
RE: How big?
Minimum of 200".

RE: How big?
ORIGINAL: BobCo19-65 Minimum of 200". Same...... Its makes the excuses for coming home empty handed much easier! |
RE: How big?
I did realy good in 2007 with a gun. Bow season however wasn't so hot. ....
I'll probably be a trad gear this year so I'll probably be happy with any decent buck...actually any deer. If I make it to gun season I'll be much more picky. I'm not sure what will make me want to pull the trigger on one but I'll know when it happens. A non-typical would get me pretty excited no matter the score. Thats one of the things I love about hunting, you never know what your going to see. Plus I hope to get my daughter her first deer. Actually this is my main goal for this year |
RE: How big?
A buck beyond ones wildest dreams.
|
RE: How big?
First doe that gives me a proper shot oppertunity, and any buck that gets my heart really racing when he walks into view.
|
RE: How big?
140-150" +
possibly a management buck smaller than 140.....since all Ive been doing for years is passing decent bucks. Plan to take the 1st doe opprotunity I get though. |
RE: How big?
In Pa if its P@Y thats a plus. I like to hold out for a nice Buck of 8pt or better with my compound. If any decent Buck walks in range when I have my recurve in my hands I will shoot. Im 99% sure I will be hunting South Dakota in November, Thats P@Y or better for Whitetail and any score for Mule deer on this hunt!

MAKE THAT TWO LOL!!!!

RE: How big?
Nothing that isn't mountable. Mountable to me, 150 class buck or close to it. Also, character of the rack comes into mind too.
|
RE: How big?
3.5 yrs.
Doesn't matter to me if it's a busted up rack or not. The score doesn't 'always' do it for me. |

RE: How big?
Anything bigger then my 6 point, im not going to be choosy about it. Thats for the "great" hunters....
:D |
RE: How big?
bow: any legal deer
gun: 110" and up |
RE: How big?
4.5 year old and olderwhitetail bucks
|
RE: How big?
I'm holding out for something brown. So no Barta Bunny Blunting squirrels or groundhogs from the deer stand for me.....
But no seriously buck wise all it takes is for me to decide that he is big enough, mature enough to be worth the effort. Most of what I shoot is does and personally I see little to no point in shooting a buck if he is not trophy quailty. Thats not to say I condemn anyone for doing so, a trophy is what you make one out of.... if you were going to quantify it.... it would be about 130 gross inches. But that of course just depends on the deer itself.... if I like the look of him and feel so compelled then he'll wear one. |
RE: How big?
honestly what i can legally take (atleast in florida) but when i go up to ohio in october i will want atleast a 6 point.
|
RE: How big?
