I guess it would work, if you could get the deer to hold the can over his heart.[:-]

^ see instead of a 3" circle i use a can:DKnow really the can helps me concentrate on teh shot, its kinda wierd, but i can shoot at just a target and shoot like crap, and stick a can or bottle or whaterver and i shoot better.

i do this with old juice jugs and whatnot all the time. a soda can is a small enough target that you could kill a deer. you really only need to be able to hit a desert plate. That's about...what? 4"dia.

If you can hit something the size of a soda can at 20 or 30 yards that is accurate enough to kill a deer. That being said, shooting arrows into a metal can probably isn't the best thing you can do for them. And another thing is that when practicing the smaller the target you aim at the more accurate you are usually.

For hunting though it really pays to get some sort of 3-D target or a target with a picture of a deer. That way you can get used to aiming at an animal, not a dot. Accuracy is good, but you really need to learn proper shot placement as well. And shooting at a live animal or 3-D target is a bit tougher than shooting a regular target.

You shoot better because you actually picking out a spot to shoot at. Aim small, miss small. The problem with this is, there are no soda cans on the lungsof deer, so how are you going to pick a spot then. I would recommend you practice at 3D targets and get good at picking a spot on a deer to hit.

realisticly there not that small, a average deer will weigh 100-120, so maybe a small doe for you guys up there in the midwest, is the size of a buck for us, unless you get lucky and shoot a big one.

well i do have a deer 3-D target, that is what i shoot at with broadheads, i just stick the can on the deer with duck tape:Dbut i see what you guys are saying about picking a spot on a deer, so for right now i will use the cans to make sure my bow is shooting the broadheads true, then i will take the can off.

Can sized groups are great. However like some of the others said, If I am practicing for a target shoot I practice on that target, If I am getting ready for deer season I practice on the next best thing to a real deer, A deer 3D target. It s the only real way to know how you shooting.

millerhunter13 06-13-2008 09:15 AM

RE: is this good enough???

yeah, this is what i am gonna do, i am going to shoot a couple times at the cans, to make sure they are shooting true then i am going to just shoot at the deer target.
