RE: ok, lets get to know each other
My name is Gordon Shaw and I am a thirty-two year old 6-1 265 lb.kid according to my wife. I am married with beautiful 4 1/2 year old twin daughters who are learning how to fish.I have been visiting this place for a while, since around 2001 if memory serves (maybe earlier I'm not sure). I just finished Law School a month ago and am about knee deep in studying for the bar (and getting deeper every day). In the little spare time I have I make game calls (turkey and duck) and try to get in a round of golf in between fishing. I guess you could say I have a lot of hobbies.
Bowhunting is one of my diversions while waiting for duck season. I spend most of my efforts from Thanksgiving until the end of January chasing ducks. But, like most things I take bow hunting very seriously and won't do it "half way", it is all or nothing. I remember my first bow was a Hoyt target bow that I had to Camo up.After taking my first doe with it my dad agreed to buy me a dedicated hunting rig, a brand new PSE Mach Flite 4, it was top of the line back then. I've had a bow ever since, currently I'm shooting an '04 Bowtech Patriot 29" draw with the draw weight set at 72 lbs (factory max). Still shooting A/C/C's cause I haven't found anything better for me. I have only bowhunted lightly in for the pastthree years, but I plan on changing that this year...at least till the ducks show up. I have been hunting for 25 years and havehunted large game in 12 states (Deer only unless you count turkeys, but I'm working on an Elk Trip for '09) and am halfway into my Grand Slam for Turkeys. But, both have taken a back seat to pursuing webfooted game for the past 10 years. Boy...do I feel like a self centered idiot after writing all that.... the bottom line...my name is Gordon, I have been hunting since I was seven. I enjoy deer hunting and have done it quite a bit, but put deer on the back burner when Duck season gets here. |

Jason Mez, 37 years old. Born and rasied in NE and now live in Sturgis, SD. Single but am engaged and will get married in November, no children.
I'm a veterinarian, board certified in equine surgery. Fall and winter are slow times for my career so allows me to do a lot of hunting. I've been bowhunting since I was 14 and hunting ingeneral since I was old enough to traipse along. Sports and hunting have pretty much occupied my free time. Played football in college and am still a huge fan of the game. I still coach AAU wrestling and get down and help out with high school football when I have time. I fly fish in the off season but most of my time is spent team roping and starting colts for people. I've been on several bowhunting trips, including most of the western and midwest states, TX, AK and South Africa. Pretty much stick around here to hunt now as we have whitetail, mulies, antelope, turkeyand mountain lions to chase. Can also hunt elk, mountain goat and bighorn sheep if you draw a tag. I trap quite a little in the winter with my brother and he also has coon hounds so I go with him when I have the chance. |

I am Adam from SW MO. I am 29 years old, married, we have a boy that is 5 and a girl that is 3. I have been bow hunting for 9 yrs now and killed my first Pope and Young deer last year. My wife is very supportive of my habit/hobby. I have hunted TX and OK for hogs, bow hunted deer in MO and KY. Turkey hunted in MO, TX, NE, and FL where I have killed all 4 subspecies of turkeys to complete my grand slam. I even took a tripto Canada on a bear hunt last fall where I killed a 200 lb black bear with my bow. I am planning another trip to Canada, looking for a colored bear, next spring and Wyomming in the fall to hunt antelope. I wish all of you the best of luck this fall.

RE: ok, lets get to know each other
I know Steve, Just 13? Awesome!!!..sometimes...I do not realize my experience over the years taking deer with bow since I was 11 years old...Its weird..because I tend to focus on my monsters on the wall rather then kill#'s because thats what the relm of bowhunting sinks in our heads....but when I reflect back and subtract the fact that my biggest buck is a 120 class.....I realize...darn.....I have a pile of bow kills....
Its hard to explain....but.....old ted Nugent is right (not a huge fan but I love Fred Bear)....the more animals you take regardless of your 3D shooting hours...the better you are.....I can't say thatmy number of kills makes me rock solid in the stand....to this day...I still make my mistakes....if I could say one thing.....burn a hair in the deer and always think about where you want the arrow to exit the deer...not where you want to hit the deer...and never aim at the body....pick a red dot the size of an aspirin behind the shoulder....laser your eye on that red dot......and you will take alot of game...regardless of your bow and all the arrows you break at home practicing.....Taking ALL types of animals with a bow is the key...throw away the block targets and high tech stuff....when you are comfortable with your set up...and confident...you will kill year after year...its that temptation that makes us buy new stuff...and then we are challenged to learn again and regain that big word...CONFIDENCE> And when you think its too easy and you are confused about hunting....shoot off the knuckle with an Osage stick with a flint head wrapped in deer tendons on a cedar shaft...follow the Shultzy Way... On that day you will regain your focus and realize what archery means to us.... Brian! |

I'm Brett. I couldn't think of anything else I would rather be doing in the fall other than bowhunting for whitetails. I am married with two kids, with another on the way due in late July. I love to bass fish as well. I like playing no-limit poker tournaments and cash games. I hope to raise my kids to be respectful yet have the courage to speak their mind, and humble, yet competitive enough to push through the hard times.

I'm Darrall
I'm 38 & live in Oklahoma, Married, 2 kids. I have been bowhunting all my life. It was bred into me by my father. My passion growing up was playing my guitar & hunting. I stopped playing the clubs about 6 years ago because it just cut into my hunting & familytime too much. I work in the aviation business purchasing parts for Bizjet International. I have been doing that for almost 13 years. Worked 8 years prior to that in the archery business. |
RE: ok, lets get to know each other
here's Frank, a real native from small loudmouth country Belgium.
I live together with my girlfriend and her kid who's 7. I am an outdoors kinda person like most of you on HNI. I like being in the woods and I have a thing with the amazon forests, been twice to Costa Rica and last april I spent 14 days in the middle of Suriname, close to the brazillian borders. I have a keen eye for wildlife and one animal in particular, that's foxes. I've seen them almosteverywhere I went on holiday, from Berlin to the jungles of Monte Verde, CR. It's the only animal I will not shoot, but I won't blame others for doing so. I've been shooting my bow for more than 10 years now and have gotten serious about it for about 2 years. I will have to move to another country if I want to bowhunt, since it's forbidden in most european countries. France being the exception will be my first visit because I want to fill my freezer with the deer or boar I want to harvest. Other hobbies include photography and building lego ( yes, yes, the toys ) http://www.flickr.com/photos/69041177@N00/ |
RE: ok, lets get to know each other
I'm Eddie, 48 years young today, great wife of almost 25 years and 3 sons ages 23,22, and 7 (oops).
I am a deer-aholic. I hunt in Georgia (my native land) and Illinois (I am an evil non-resident). I am specifically a whitetail deer addict and hunt archery mostly but also muzzleloader and an occasional rifle or shotgun. When I am not at work, with the family, or church, I will be found pursuing my addictions. I would love to hunt every state and province where whitetails exists. I'm not close to pulling that off though. I own my own 1 man IT business primarily working with clients as a Database Engineer. It's a good living and I can take time off to hunt and thats' why I started the business to begin with (though I told my wife it was to make more $$$). My best description of me is: I am an ultra-conservative computer geek who loves Christ, family, life, freedom, and whitetail deerhunting!!! |

RE: ok, lets get to know each other
Hello, my name is Justin and I am the resident admininazi here at HuntingNet.com. I am responsible for banning people, editing posts, deleting posts, andusing my powers for own personalgain. Although I must admit, it hasn't gotten me very far.
I am 27 years of age and live in the suburbs of Chicago where I grew up. I have known Mr. dukemichaels since 7th grade. We naturally became friends as we were the only two kids who wore sweatshirts with pictures of deer and/or fish on them every day. (and we wonder now why we never had girlfriends back then. ) We spent much of our younger years exploring local fishing holes and woodlots, and I must admit we were much better at catching big bass than we were at shooting deer. I am getting married on September 27th of this year to a wonderful, and somewhat gullable, woman who has most certainly changed my life for the better. Some day we will have children and I will teach them the ways of being an Internet toughguy. My "real" job is managing an IT Consulting/Web Design firm which currently consists of 11 employees including myself. We specialize in IT consulting for small to mid-sized businesses here in Chicagoland, and we build websites and customweb applications (like what Germ does)for a variety of businesses including many within the hunting industry. When I'm not doing that I've spent the past 4 years trying to make HNI the best hunting website in the world . However, now that we have sold the company my focus has shifted towards our next endeavor which will be Bowhunting.com, launching sometime this fall (hopefully).I enjoy sitting in a treestand freezing my butt off waiting for a chance to shoot a deer with my bow and arrow, playing softball (respect to peakrut, he is much better than I), photography, mountain biking, playing Guitar Hero III, fishing, enjoying some tasty beverages with my friends, going to rock concerts and moshing with a bunch of skinny jean-wearing 17 year olds, and listening to Huey Lewis and the News. |

I have shot 2 bucks with my bow and a couple others with my muzzleloader. Last July my perents bought 21 acers that is connected to 300 acers i hunt. They told me that i could do what i wanted with it for about 4 years till i got to collage. I planted 4 acers of food plots and put in a couple vita-rack minerial stations. I have got tons of bucks on my trail camera. But i love to hunt and will definatly be doing it the rest of my life.

I work as aMachine MaintenanceTechnician and have been bowhunting for about 5 years now. I have been shooting since prob jr high, but always seemed like I had too much other stuff going onto go bowhunting, although I did shot gun hunt deer. Nowadays it wouldn't bother me a bit to not get a shot gun tag for deer season and just bow hunt.

RE: ok, lets get to know each other
My name is Cody and at 18 I've been blessed with the amazing opportunity to join the Mossy Oak Pro Staff as well as being assigned my own section in a whitetail magazine/site. As well as being a Mossy Oak Pro Staffer I author Cody's Corner on www.showmeyourbuck.com .. a VA based deer hunting site and we are launching an online magazine this calendar year and hope to take it to a print magazine in the future. I love whitetails and read, go afield and study, and video and photograph them daily. I'd love to share a hunt with just about everyone on this site and would like just as much to tag along with any hunter than I would harvest a monster myself. I've been hunting since I was 6 and have taken 16 whitetails in my life and just recently got into bowhunting 3 years ago and fall more in love with it every year.

I hunt for me, shoot what I want, when I want and if I want, all for me! I do enjoy sharing hunting with others. My 12 year old son is my life, I'll do anything for him and he knows it! I have been in the music business for the past 23 years and I have traveled the world for the past 17 or 18 years as a Tour Manager for Rock & Roll bands! I recently retired form the road for a second time this past year and now work strictly for my Stagehand Union, I.A.T.S.E. here in Milwaukee! Great job, benefits but do work long hours and a lot of them. Good news is I can have as much time off as I want come October and November! I grew up hunting and wandering the woods of Northern Michigan ever since I was a young lad. I thank my Father for everything he has ever done for me, God Bless His soul!

RE: ok, lets get to know each other
My mind says I'm 19, my body says I'm 28, my calender says I'm 42.
Never hunted before. Got married 3 years ago and inherited a hunting family. It took a while, but years of listening to good hunting camp stories and eating piles of good venison lead me to purchase a bow last year. 9/07. Bowhunting fits my personality. I have always gravitated to individual sports, golf, wrestling, swimming, cycling, triathlon. Learned how to shoot well in the US Coast Guard. Which helped me harvest my first deer last December. Only thing better was celebrating Jesus birthday (aka Christmas). Have learned a lot lurking on this site and decided to join just recently. Thanks to all for sharing. Slim |
RE: ok, lets get to know each other
I'm Frank. I'm 35, been married for 13 years and have 3 (soon to be 4) kids. One's 12, one's 3 and one's 1. The 4th is coming in late September.
I only recently started hunting a few years ago after moving into a neighborhood full of hunters and becoming very close friends with one of them. I "impulse" hunted at first - when a type of hunting sounded "cool", I got into it (eg. muzzleloading and bowhunting). As for other interests (when I am not consumed by my wonderful family), I play a few video games (online first person shooters), am an avid bowler, regular joe type of guy. I love playing with my kids and watching cartoons until we can't stand 'em anymore. :D I'm a Navy veteran - stationed on the U.S.S. Constellation (CV-64). Loved it. I'm a Christian. I feel that the relationship with Jesus is more important than your religious affiliation. But, as far as religious affiliations go, I'm a Southern Baptist (converted from Catholic). That about sums me up. |
