RE: Deer Camp. Who still does it?

My deer camp is in a Crooked Horn High Country Extreme II backpack, and wherever my feet take me!

Man, don't no one stay in tents or campers anymore? Imagine that, heat & water.

That's the old farm house, very old but structurally sound. We have added indoor plumbing, electricity, and done a little work on the two wood stoves/chimmneys.At some point we are going to do some serious spring cleaning and possibly some remodeling to fix the porch on the back side and the upstairs bedrooms.

It's tucked right in the middle of about 1000 acres (4 different pieces of property) and you could literally hunt from the yard. Deer and turkey are always in the front field and right behind the house. The pic below is taken almost in the same spot just from the house side with the front field in the background.

Man, Im jealous of all of you with these deer camps. Im hoping someday. One quick question though, have any of you ever taken a deer from camp, say off the porch or out the door? Just curious if the weather sucked and the opportunity was there? I have no opinion on it, but I like to hear stories if anyone has?

I was snowed in to an old cabin in Wyoming 10 years ago and had something like that occur. We had been snowed in, I mean couldn't move farther than the outhouse for 4 days and trucks with Chains weren't going to get us out. I mean we were a good 20 miles from the nearest paved road and 15 from any sign ofa gravel road. Eating dinner and had the door open and my father says, "Anyone want to shoot a buck?" We look at him and he says, "Im serious" Grab our rifles and sure enough a 4 pt is standing across the canyon. We only had one deer and we were packing up camp the next morning so one guy takes a shot, misses, takes off running. Im only 17 at the time and I ask my dad, "Can I shoot?" He gives me the OK and took the shot, hit him running at 120 yards. Ran about 30 more yards and dropped. I had serious cabin fever so it was an added bonus to get another deer and get out of the cabin for a while. Just curious if anyone has any stories like that?
