Ok, this is a bit crazy....

I know a guy here in Va that killed a nice 194" buck last bow seasoon in IL. Ok, so what's so crazy you ask??? He paid $9,000 to kill this deer!!! 9 G's on a freakin deer???!!!! Damn Im poor!! Even if I had $9,000 I would not spend it on one deer, yeh a 194" is great, but if I gotta pay for it, I don't want it, where is the economy going again?? I thought someone said it was bad?? huh, guess not for some.. sooo....who would pay it if they had it? who would not??

I wouldn't pay that much, but if somebody has it and wants to spend it for that buck, more power to them.

I'm not quite so crazy but I am paying about $2K for the whole season in Illinois this year, including licenses. I have no guarantees except I will have fun! Deer hunting is the only vice I have and I intend to feed the habit!

RE: Ok, this is a bit crazy....

if that's how someone wants to spend their money then go ahead, I wouldn't, but to each his own. I think it is crazy to spend that much for one deer. I pay less than 2 g's for my land and I kill more than one deer, granted it won't be 194" deer but ......

RE: Ok, this is a bit crazy....

I'd say so!! I'll spend that some where else.

He's got that highly infectous disease in the huntingworld called EGO.

Nine grand is a bargain for a 194" compared to many places. I've heard of people paying 20 grand for a 190" plus buck. Would I pay that much if I were loaded? No, but I guarantee I would have a sweet piece of property where I could possibly grow a few of my ownthat size. I'm not going to knock someone for doing it. If you have the money, do what you want with it.

If I was filthy rich I would as long as it was a fair chase hunt,no fenced in deer for me.

Was this the type of hunt where you basically choose what size deer you want to shoot (canned/ high fence), then pay according to what the antlers score? Either way, that's a bit much!;):D Too rich for my blood for just one hunt, and one buck. Also, I thinkspending a lotmoney for a lease is quite different in my eyes.

Yeah - $9k seems to be a lot of money for most, but not for some!
I paid $3,500 to hunt Texas last year, all inclusive without license and that was way more than I would have liked to pay.
That doesn't include flight, rental, mount, etc... But it was part of my 40th b-day present, x-mas, anniversary, etc. from my loving wife.
I truely have more gratification from shooting my little bucks in NH over the big 8-point in Texas.
Probably the blood, sweat and tears and anticipation of trudging thru the woods / scouting, so on and so fourth, that makes it more mine?
Verses sitting on a stand and watching 20-30 deer each morning, then again in the evening and waitng for Mr. BIG.
Don't get me wrong, I had a trip of a life time and was fortunate to be able to afford the trip and wouldn't give it back for anything.
It was also a cheaper hunt than most others I looked at, but none the less, $3,500.
So if you can do it without having your family sacrifice, then more power to you.

I agree Ed. I spend $5000to hunt Alberta which is a ton of money, but that's for 6 days of hunting/tags, GREAT food/lodging, air fare/overnight hotel stay. So it's not too crazy, I'm single.;):D:D

RE: OK, this is a bit crazy....

from whathe told me, yeh, it was a pay for what you want to shoot deal. I don't know if it was high fenced or not. Like I said, if a man wants to fork it out and it means that much to him, go ahead. In the end what has he done?? He has paid to hunt a deer, not many deer, but one deer. All he did was cut out the homework and went straight for the test. I have never done it, and probably will never have a chance to do it if i wanted too, but just like Encyclopedia said, he has and he gets more enjoyment from his own efforts in NH than in Texas.

I don't have an issue with going on a trip, but i do have a have an issue I guess with paying for a certain deer. I wouldn't do it and yes, I will say that it is souless to do it. Ok, well everyone can jump on me.... seriously, a paid trip is cool, but to pay a certain amount for a certain deer??? that does take away from the guys who do it the old fashion way....

Well put Va. That's how I see it as well.;)When I go up north, I'm the one sitting in a tree stand for 10 hours in 10-20 degree weather waiting for a CHANCE at a big buck, no guarentee's!

RE: Ok, this is a bit crazy....

Well I have always said if I ever have any disposeable income
(not likely):DI would like totravel and go hunt. I expect it would cost several thousand dollars and I have no problem with that as long as Iwason a free range hunt with good lodging, good guides(or semi guided), and had an oppurtunity to hunt some prime land that held exceptional deer. I feel like I would be paying more for the oppurtunity than anything and I have no problem with that.

I wouldn't hunt a fenced area but I know some that would and they are friends so as much as I wouldn't do it I don't really care if they do. If they want to pay the money to sit in a pen with a guide in the box blind telling them what each buck costs as it makes its way to the feeding trough that's fine just don't come home telling me any "huntung" stories.

Here is what $15,000 will buy you. My buddy, his dad, and grandda killed these on a "hunt" like the one I just described. Breeder bucks, pens, they name the deer, the whole nine. Note the tags still on the racks.

To each their own just not for me.

Don't know the real answer to that question, Never had more money than my bill collectors wanted anyway--ButI guess if I had more money than bills I would probaly buy or lease land somewhere I could grow some big bucks!!! Would I go on a pay hunt?? I just don't know!!!

well if it was a free range hunt and you have the money more power to you I don't want to shoot one behind a fence but I am paying 3,000 for a hunt in Illinois this year, 9,000 is a little out of my range but if the guy has the money and theres no fences who cares as long as he's happy.
