What I told you is for rifle as my bow and I still have milk on our lips.
There's only one way to wipe that milk off!;)

I didn't draw my last attempt, but I am still hoping that this year I will get lucky. I hope your news was incorrect.
You can go on there now and find out. Go into the "Buy License" and attempt to buy anything and it will eventually take you to a page that shows what you've got bought so far. If it shows a 580 you're in, if it's 480 you're out

RE: No CO Deer Tag

Are you applying in the same areas that you first drew without any points? If not....odds can vary drastically from one unit to another, even if they border one another.

were you applying rifle? bow? I think just about any good rifle unit is very tough to draw in CO.

I'm looking to do a archery deer hunt next year there, I think I'll have 3pts going into next year.

Don't be too disappointed, points are points. Also you sould know the draw % for the tag you're applying, regardless if you drew without any points before etc.....in most states anyone can draw but the odds are way against you with 0 pts to those with 20pts....but still possible, so in that scenario....if you got totally lucky and drew even though you shouldnt have, you can't expect to keep drawing like that....

Also I know colorado's draw system goes through everyone's 1st choice before anyones 2nd choice, therefore you really only have 1 chance in the raffle, so if your 1st choice was for a great area with horrible odds, you won't get that 1st choice, and by the time they roll around to your 2nd choice, everyone who put that unit in as their 1st already drew it and now you won't draw it either. Knowing the system in every state can really affect how you apply, all I can say is learn the odds, and the system to better your odds.

Yes, the unit we drew the first time is the same we didn't draw this year.

You're explanation of the draw system makes sense. Live and learn I guess.

If your "going through the backdoor" involves going online as though you were purchasing a habitat stamp and then viewing your recent purchased items-bad news. You probably didn't draw just as you suspect.

I say this because I have been hoping for an elk tag although I have realized from the onset that I am probably still 1 point shy away for the unit I applied in. I've been checking daily and nothing other than my 2 listed appliations have appeared even though other people have been telling me thay had an additonal item listed.

But today, I do have a third item, along with my elk app and deer app and that would be my deer tag.

So it looks like a drew a deer tag (don't know if it is first or second choice yet) but no elk tag.

Hopefully, I will still draw an elk tag in New Mexico. If not I'll buy a Coloradoover the counter elk and carry it with me in my deer unit.

Hopefully, one will show up for you yet, but just as my elk tag, I doubt it.

Every state is different, and they regs are always changing, sometimes the fish n game people aren't even sure...

I drew a MT antelope last year when I had thought it would take 3yrs to draw. Also I thought a WY unit would take 4 years to draw....but after researching the odds looks in fact like 2nd year I should draw...

Years ago if I had known how the WY system worked, I'd of been able to gain a pref pt and a tag, rather than just the tag....which the game seems to all come down to pts these days. Personally I'm to the point where I'd rather wait another year to draw a great unit than to just hunt every year.....course if you apply enough places, you should be hunting almost every year somewhere...which is my plan these days....

Depending how late some state draws are....you can have a backup plan in some states.....though usually this is tough to figure out.....never know where exactly you'll get lucky.....and some states deadlines are early and then you don't find out until after other states deadlines. Personally I'd rather have the problem of too many tags than none at all. though I too am learning and trying to space stuff out, I figure if you got really lucky drawing 3 tags out west would be crazy, and even 2 pretty rare, so 1 tag a year somewhere out west would be ideal.

May consider building pts in other places, and cashing them in later when you want....thats my CO elk plan....
