thinking of swaping bows around, advise please...

I currently have a fred bear "truth" bow that is about a year old. I didn't mean to buy it, the pro shop owener said I dry fired it so I have to bought it. so I did, no hassle. I went hunting w/ it this last fall for turkey and white tails. it was a bad dry year for me so not to many shoot opportunity present its self [:@] ohh well.
Ever since I brought that bow home I have not liked it. its got green/ orange cat whisker puff balls on it and the string is green/bright orange. the grip is good, built like a bow grip should be thin and fit in the corner of me hand. but the recoil/ shot noise/ vibration is unbearable. I went and put on it the most espencive (and best) limbsaver stabilizer they make. it made it quite barable but now when it get loose and i don't notice it not work so well leaveing me with an arm that fell like I swung metal bat at metal poll as hard as possible, OOUUCHhhhh!!!!!
its bright collors make it useless on turkeys they spot it miles away, and the stabilizer issue make me wana change around. If I were rich I might go get one of those new matthews Drenalin bows throw my acc. on it and be happy. but I can no spend 700-800 bux now.
So I think I might offer my dad my Winchester M70 in .300 WSM W/ Nikon 3-9x40 BDC scope on it. it should compare at $300 rifle+$300 scope= his practically untouched Switchback XT. what you all think?? is it a good traid??

P.S. Any one want a fred bear the truth (first year they came out)??

I might know a guy needing a new bow. depends on how bad your wanting to get rid of it. ;)

Well that seems likea great trade for your dad, but I don't know about you. How old is your rifle how good of shape is it in, and which modle 70 is it? Is it oneof the Classics with the controled round feed and claw extractor? Or is it the regular run of the mill (walmart special) post 64 style push feed action? The reason why I ask is their is a big difference in price between these guns. I have a classic featherweight in the .270 WSM that was made in New Haven, Connecticut. It cost around$800 new, thepush feed actions on the other hand cost about $300-$350 less depending uponthe dealership. I have seen quite a few at walmart so thats why I call them walmart specials and they costanyware between $400-$500. As far a yourNikon scope goes I don't know what its worthbut if yousay its worth $300 then I believe you. With yourrifle and scope I wouldput thevalue at no less than $700, and it could be a whole buch more depending upon the age and type of your rifle. Now for the value of your dads bow, even with it being like new it is worthbetween $600 maybe $700topsfully loaded with sight, quiver, rest, stabilizer,as well aswith arrows, a case and even a release. For bare bow its worth $450 tops, now it might seem like a good trade now, but in two year your gun will be the same value that it is today, maybe it will even be more. But the bow on the other hand will have dropped a couple of hundred less than it is now. So do you really want to give up your gun for that bow? Only you can answer that, if it was me I would make your truth work, wait and save your money for another bow or you could buy your dads bow for less money then now becuase of it droping in price. My brother has a like new 2003 Mathews Legacy it has not even been shot 50 times yet, its been stored in a case in a cool basement and it looks like its brand new, but yet the price of that bow is worth $250 at most for bare bow. Anyway not sure if I helped or not just giving you something to think about.

It has the black some thing stock on it(came with it) I looked in there broshure and the "run of the mill type" was the only ones to wear that kind of stock. It had to be the sub $500 gun not the $800 ones every one is hording in there safes. I just looked at the scope reall good and I miss spoke about it. it is a 4-14x44 black matte with the long range goodies. I usually get the 3-9x40's but this gun can really reach out so it got a nicer scope. I think I will keep the gun&scope, save and look for a good condition used mathews bow, dren. switchback it really dont matter they are both good i suppose. and pick that up.
mohunter82:I am interested in getting rid of the bow. please let me know what price your friend thinks it is worth. It was $500 & some change brand new.

Did you?

Strings aren't too expensive, and what noise reduction action did you take? What was the most expensive? I am curious.

RE: thinking of swaping bows around, advise please...

Bowtechben: No I didn't "dry fire" it. the string did get away from me on the let down but it was far from full draw when it happened. I put cat wiskers on it and a limb saver modular stabilizer. stabilizer was 80 dollars and was what did it for the bow. stock limb savers on the limbs nothing else was done to reduce noise. I reluctantly test fired one at a different pro shop and got the same results with it. they were not good bows.

As for your XT is it 70lbs or the 60 lbs model? Drawlength?? what you asking for it??

wis bow hunter: $100? bare bow maybe, can you come up a bit??

I has a hot dot (the original) site as well as some releases I tried before I got my current one. As well as a bag of broad heads. I have muzzy classic heads (8 pack fer 20 bux) and I think they will do fine for many years to come, so these others my uncles and family gave me for cheap (as well as a sale i found in a hunting store) are not going to see a hunt on my arrows. maybe some body will want those too?? package deal? call it a goody bag! theres nap thunder heads, easton outfiters heads (lots of kinds) and that all that I can think of for now.

RH 60lbs model, 28" I think....its a buddies...I know he is really ready to deal on it. IT currently has a trophy ridge drop zone rest and carolina stab on it. He wanted like 550 for the package...but he may be ready to roll. I think somewhere like 4 for the bow...450 for the package...don't quote me. i will inquire for the exact details if you are into it....he really wants a new dxt for some reason....I keep telling him that the XT is the best bow matthews made....but he won't listen.....Matthews guys...oh well.[8D]

bow only for me, I have loads of archery cr*p laying around to put on it. so let me know, id like to get a XT again. rather it be a 70 lbs. model though.
While your callin him up ask what the let off is also. Im not lookin to show me trophies off in the book so its 80% for me (as long as I can get it) besides it lets me hold the dang thing up longer better fer me!!

No, unfortunately. That M70 is a popular rifle and is no longer in production if I am not mistaken? Have you tried to shop it around first? You should be able to get some pretty decent coin for it if you do not allow anyone to take advantage of you. I definately would not trade the rifle for a bow. jmo

Way to go!Hold on to that high powered rifle even if you are not getting any use from it right now. Those M70's are the ones that every rifle hunter dreams of having.

Yeah, AT is incredibly popular. It is like the universe for archers.

yep on both accounts, it will be me gun safe queen till a good use comes up. maybe one day I will go hunt big elk or moose. maybe then I will have a good enough use to let them 2 dollar bullets off the chain. HEHehhehee, yeepers thems espencive bullets!!1[:@][:-]

Hey I found a 08 dren. 70lb draw. 28" DL (I am 30 DL) don't know let off (not matter much, prolly 80) and guy wants about 500 TYD. good deal? I am going to have to take it to a dealer to get its DL fixed and my old cobra drop away put on. just don't know if thats still a good deal or no, Hhhrrrmmm[&:][>:][>:][>:][>:]

Don't feel bad, I have a Ruger M77 Stainless in 7mm Rem Mag and I know the pain of hearing a round go off.

Yeah man, if it is in good shape and you can inspect it over before you buy it than that is a heck of a deal. You just never know what you are going to get over the web. My friend has a Drenalin and it is a very fast, straight shooting bow. I am trying to figure out a way to get my Black Ice up to speed. Who knows, I might end up getting an 07 Tribute. It's basically a Black Ice on steroids.
