Which of my arrows for hunting and why?
 

I have three different arrows I'm shooting and trying to decide which one I want to use this upcoming hunting season (whitetail, boar). I have weights and speeds of each.

26" Beman ICS Hunter 400's= 366gr at 283fps at 65.07ft-lbs.= faster, less drop, but noisier, least f.o.c.
28" Easton Excel 340's= 429gr at 263fps at 65.87ft-lbs= mid range speed, slightest k.e. difference, slightly quieter
28" Beman ICS Bowhunter 340's= 494gr at 247fps at 66.9ft-lbs = slowest, quietest, most kinetic energy, most f.o.c.

There isn't that big of a difference in kinetic energy so I'm debating which ones I'm going to hunt with. Give me reasons why one would be better than another. Maybe the difference is so slight it doesn't even matter, but
Which would you choose and why?
My setup is in my signature, but if any other info would be helpful let me know.

Personally for my hunting shafts I have always gone with the most KE, and it has always served me well esp on them hogs. Not to mention you are using a wide cutting b/h, IMO you need the most KE you can get on those heads (I too shoot a 2+" cutting mechanical). You will need the KE for those heads, I personally don't feel there is overkill when it comes to KE.....JMO....Good Luck

From the looks of it I wouldn't let KE concern me at all, unless you're going after elephants. Of the three I would pick one of the 340 shafts, get broadheads on them and see which groups the best. Let the bow/arrows tell you which is the better of the two. Considering the bow weight and arrow length I just wouldn't try a 400 spine. I think the 340's will work better with broadheads. Depending on how long your shots might be I'd lean more toward the Excels. The choice is ulimately yours.

I don't know if it was just a typo or what... but is there any reason why the ICS hunter 400s are a full 2" shorter than the other two offerings?

If you can really shoot 26" arrows... I'd take the ICS bowhunters and chop 2" off the front and let the big dog eat. Only problem is thats going to be an awfully stiff arrow. A lot of it depends on performance. I tend to pick a heavier arrow that may be a bit slower, but its much easier to control, and much easier to see in flight... knowing where you hit the animal is a big part of the success equation.

No typo...I have the 400's chopped down to 26" in order to get them to spine stiffer. The 340's work at 28" but the 400's required a shorter length. Plus I can get closer to 350gr for target shooting by having the lighter, shorter arrow.

#3! Why? Because there heavier. Speed isn't everything. Ask a Traditional shooter.;)

I still think you ought to consider taking 2" off the back/front of those ICS Bowhunters to build a bit of speed and stability... yet retain a slightly heavier arrow.
