Awesome! What better to do, than to shoot bow during the last days of class. That's great that you're able to get kids involved like that. I wish our school had archery.

Health/PE shultzy...but this is actually my Outdoor ED advisory class...our district let us teachers create if you will our own class ... I chose Outdoor Ed as a theme and went with it.. So its only offered one period a day for 8th graders.. The kids really seem to enjoy it.. I usually have 60-70 kids per semester sign up for 30 spots... We do hiking, backpacking, outdoor wilderness survival skills, archery, camp cooking, jerky making, orienteering, geo caching ...and animal and plant species identification ...one day a week we do Character Ed.. which is good stuff too..

obtw, we teach archery to all 7th and 8th graders.. in our PE units ..so they all get it at least once.. NASP Program

You don't see them type's of classes here in Minnesota any more. I graduated in '93 and we had a class that was called Wildlife Conservation. I loved it and allot of the other kids did too, even the city slickers!;) A year later that class got cut being the teacher who was teaching it retired and no one else wanted anything to do with it! I was ticked being that was such a good class for everyone to learn something from. We did taxidermy, measured racks with the P&Y measuring system, conservation stuff involving the hunting part of it, bird watching, farming, agriculture, you name it we did it. Everyone in that class had the chance to learn and identify every bird, animal, fish, insect, etc in Minnesota. Them days are gone, at least here in Central Minnesota they are. Its all about indoor activities and not outdoor activities relating to the outdoors and conservation.

Well done Shed, keep up the good work!!

You hit the nail on the head.. Danged Teacher has to cheat to win! Yeah they made me shoot the genesis against them too and I got them but not by much!

They really liked the bowtech though.. sparked some attention hopefully enough to get a few of them even more interested in archery/hunting what ever..

Shultzy exactly, thats why I always say we need more hunters in Education! These kids, many here have no idea whats outside of Post Falls Idaho.. Many have moved in from California and Wash.. they take this class and I tell them all this fun is just a few miles outside of town... I had my bear rug, elk hide, sheds in a couple weeks ago.. all my bows etc.. they just eat it up. heck we barbequed elk burgers last week! :Dand they loved em..

It looks like a lot of fun. Thirty years ago when I was in high school we also did archery. We were actually encouraged to bring our own equipment to school. I would actually take a different bus after school and have the driver drop me off at a patch of woods where I had permission to hunt. My mom would pick me up by the side of the road at dark. Boy have things changed, If a kid brought a bow and arrows tipped with broadheads to school these days it would make national news. Theadministrators never knew about this but we hunted the woods behind the school in the morning before class and we even put on some small drives during study hall. We never killed anything but we would've had no problem dragging it back to school if we did.

Awesome stuff buddy! Not only are you teaching them outdoor skills, but also building some character in them. Nothing builds character in a person more than an appreciation for the outdoors.

man shed, that is great!! I wish our county would allow that, but they are too worried about other things. Heck, my kids would shoot each other over territory, gang activity is prevelant in our schools here in SE Va. Ive even had my life threatened a time or two. Im onlt 20 mins from Richmond, which seems to be a leader in the murder rate per capita every freaking year.Keep doing what ya do man, Idaho looks great for kids!!

Take a closer look at the pics. You will see that the kids are really having a great time. Lots of smiles. Also you will see focus and concentration.
No cell phones, Ipods, video games, dvds, drugs, or alcohol.
Thank you Troy for showing our youth that there are other things in life that are enjoyable. There are so many kids that don't get to experience these things because no one takes the time to show them.

Great job Troy, they all look like there having fun. They'll our future if we want to keep this sport alive. I'm a bowhunter instructor here and those kids are so eager to learn and they just need a mentor. I see a lot of single mom's with a son brought to class and wish I had more time to help them out. Thanks to HNI, I don't.[:-]
