A challenege for everyone in the fall of '08

Alright, so I had a lot of driving time to think this weekend (between the lake, skins games, cold beer & campfires... etc). I love kids (other peoples kids for the time being), but anyway I met a kid that really wants to experience the outdoors and doesn't have anyone that will take him. I'm going to make it a personal goal to get him a shot at a deer this fall.

I challenge everyone on this forum to introdue a kid to the outdoors. I know a lot of you have your own kids, but take someone that wouldn't go if it wasn't for you. They are truly the future of our sport, and we all know how continually difficult it is going to be to keep our hunting priviliges in the future. We've got to do something....

Im really working to get my son a deer. Finally got in a lease in northern WV, a place with plenty of deer. The cost was high but it'll be worth it to get him a deer. Hes getting pretty good with his new Bear bow he got for his B-day...

I've already introduced my brother to the outdoors..ocean fishing, trout fishing, bass fishing - deer hunting, bird hunting and turkey hunting.

So, does this mean that I must also introduce another youth?

I think I should !!!!!!!!
Absolutely, no reason to stop at one right? :D

Good luck with that, My ex girlfriend wanted to go hunting and I happend to shoot an big eleven pointer. She watched everything and started crying. It was all down hill from there. I should have know when her parents adopted every animal in the county that she was an animal lover. I still didn't understand why she wanted to go. Maybe she was being open minded.

That's the Fun part of hunting to me, has been for a few years. I'm taking a guy Mule Deer hunting to NE. with me this fall that has never killed a Deer with a bow.

Right now we are working on shooting basics. It should be a Fun trip!:D

My kids are getting older and it's hard to compete with the boys.I try to run off all the city boys though.:DIt makes it a extra challenge to keep them in it but I'll be up for it.

Me and my 15 year old brother tried really hard to get my 12 year old brother a shot at a deer last year. He ended up getting one during the late gun season, and missed a wide 4 point. Hes hooked though :D

Absolutely great idea! I took a young fella along on a turkey hunt and he got his first gobbler. It turned out to be a double bearded bird with good spurs and weighed 23.5 lbs so he is getting it mounted. I have a great time taking folks turkey hunting each spring. I had my fiance in the tree with me many days this past fall bowhunting and she shot her first deer, ended up being a nice buck with my T/C muzzleloader. I hope to get her one with a bow this fall! Great post!

I love kids toobut its hard to get enough barbecue sauce on the little ones. Maybe some "Frank's red hot" would be easier.

I don't have any friends that have kids old enough to hunt yet, but have introduced two friends in the past3 years to hunting. They are addicted. I have 2 more that I am going to introduce it to this year. I havea few more that want to try it, but the way I see it,If I want to trust someone with a gun, they have to be the kind of guy who will get up at 2 AM from a dead sleep to pull you out of a snow drift. All these guys would.

You learn something when you introduce someone else to hunting. For years allI wanted to due was to harvest a deer, when I introduced my friends to hunting, that all changed. I would gladly take the worst stand or take the "thick" cover when pheasant hunting just for them to get the shot. I love hunting and still want to harvest that "Wall Hanger", but get a kid or someone new to hunting there first deer and see the look on there face, priceless. I can't imagine what it would be like to be a father and see your kid take his first deer, hopefully someday for me. Until then, the high I get off of a buddy taking his first animal will good enough for me!
