Which Slick trick should I use

I want to try using Slick Tricks this year. Should I get the standard, the magnum or wait and get Grizz tricks? I'm shooting a 385 grain arrow at 248 fps which gives me 52ft lbs energy. If I turn the poundage up I can get 265 fps for 60ft lbs but at the lower poundage I can shoot longer without my shoulder hurting. I'm only hunting for whitetails and hogs, nothing bigger.

IIMHO I would stick with the Standards with only 52# KE. They are the same tough head and still cut an Awesome hole.

If you ever decided to try the Mags it is a simple task of just changing blades.

The Standard and Mag blades interchange on the same ferrule. It is like having 2 broadheads in one.

Do the grizztricks have the same ferrule? Can you just buy the 1 1/4 blades?

I agree with DropTine. I recently bought a pack slick trick mag and a pack Rage. I haven't paid too much attention to the slick tricks.

You are right they are a totally different head.

The GrizzTrick will undoubtedly be one of the most devastating heads on the market. 4 Blades do more cutting and the GrizzTrick has an 1 1/4" cut to boot.

I prefer my Broadheads to cut on impact and not have to open;)

Are you aware that slick tricks are literally made in some guys garage. There was no production company, not big time research. He designed his own broadhead, friends tried it..Everyone lliked it...

Now the slick trick is a very popular head !!

I liked them, but once I started shooting the Rage, there was no more fixed balde for me...
Just because it's not a large production facility doesn't mean that it's not as good. I've had conversations with the ownerGary on Archery Talk before I knew who he was. Let me tell you, this guy is knowledgeable when it comes to broadheads. As far as Big Time Research is concerned I would have thought the same thing until I went to work for a gun manufacturer as a machinist in the R&D department. It is one of the most highly respected manufacturers of Black rifles and accessories and they supply exclusively tothe military. I found the shortcuts they took just to save costs somewhat disturbing. There is a big diference between a product that is good enough and one that is quality made. Gary takes pride in his work annd I can't wait to try Slick Tricks first hand.
Dan, am I wrong about oldhootowl?

Gary, Is a Top notch guy and if he wasn't making the Broadheads I personally use I would someone making them who is as dedicated to making a quality head as he is.

All properties needed in a Broadhead: Toughness, Flight, Sharpness, and Flat out tissue damage. IMO the Slick Tricks are one of if not the best on the market. I'd put them up against anything and although I sell several brands of quality heads I have no intentions of switching my personal choice in heads.

My feelings about Garry and the Slick Trick is exactly as Dan's.

There isn't another broadhead on the market that combines the flight, toughness, quality, and total cut like the Slick Trick.

I have been using the slick tricks since the 2003 season.... I am really debating buying the grizz tricks for this fall but I have around a dozen of the mag's already and feel it would be a waste not using them......

You could always shoot some concrete blocks. That might lower your inventory.

No guarantees though!;)

MeanV, A few years ago I shot a concrete block 4 times with the same 125 grain magnum and it still spun with no wobble. :DThe baldes were dull and the tip was dulled but the broadhead was still fully intact and shootable again.

That's the reason I said might!;)

The 125's especially are built like a Tank!!

This will be my 6th season shooting Slick Trick Magnums, and they are by far the best I have ever shot. I was a long time Muzzy, and Thunderhead shooter, but have never looked back since switching to ST's.
I have had many conversations with Gary, and he certainly knows his stuff in regard to broadhead design.
I would also recommend that you go with the standard Tricks at 52 lbs of KE. My wife shoots 85 grain standardTricks, and she only shoots 45lbs.

I would shoot the standards. The 1" cut 4 blade still offers a lot of tissue damage and your penetration would be greatly increased. Slick tricks Overall are one of the better replaceable/fixed blade heads on the market today.

I've shot the 100 grain regulars for two years and am either switching to the magnum's or the grizztricks this year. They look mean. I just wonder if I will be able to get them in time for the October opener.

Gary is still telling me I should have the new heads late June;)
