Got My Hawg
 

Well we finally got to do some hawg hunting on Sunday.
What a day it was nice and sunny with temps around the 70 mark.
We got out there at 9am and would you believe it this place was that thick with cedar bushes it was not funny altho they did have some roads you could walk on but hawgs dont like roads.

To say it was a tough hunt is a understatement. I have hunted pigs most of my life and this hunt was the hardest I have ever been on.

I got tree' d 3 times by the same sow and bow did she have a bad attitude she charged me once from 50yrds away in fact I am sure it is the same sow that treed the other guys as well.

We hunted hard all day I finally got a shot off at 5:30pm a nice boar about 100lbs.
I had to take the shot from my knees just glad that sow was not around;)

4 of us went down and all scored altho we had to finish one off with the gun.

I can hardly wait to go back down there and get another couple :D

That' s a nice hawg. I' ve always wanted to try it. Do you just walk around looking for them or how do you do it.

Yep thats all I do is spot and stalk them great fun getting within 20yds of them on the ground.
Really gets the blood rushing when they charge:D.

Congrats and way to go. How did that sow ever see you wearing your ASAT. Just kidding. I was about to post an Ausie Hunt thread since you had not informed us how your hunt went.

How did the Dually perform. I sure you are so disappointed with it you probably just want to pack it up and send it to Ga just to get rid of it. PM me and I' l give you the address in GA to send it to, lol.

The Pat performed flawlessly and sorry but I think I am gonna keep it:D
Altho I did not get a pass thru mainly because I hit a little forward but it did punch the arrow right through the gristle plate,shoulder bone and took out both lungs;).
I wish I had a video camera cause when the arrow hit it knocked the pig over by the time it got up it could only manage to go 10 yds before expiring.

Dont worry that sow is going to get hers next week end;)

Great job on the hog, Russell! Another ASAT success for the book and the web site. Glad to see that new bow worked so well, but it' s all in the shooter.

Great sounding hunt. Glad you got the Pat bloody. I need to get out of this stinkin' snow, and come to Texas. BTW, good pic of you hanging, by the hawg dressed in your ASAT camo.:D;)

I still have a million feet of snow in my yard and Russell is talking 70 and sunny.........sweet.

Great job mate......You might be the first in the country to break in that model bow? Mine would have shot clean thru tho. ;)

By the time we had got the pigs out and took the pics the temp had dropped into the 30' s and all I had on was the ASAT coveralls.The Jacket was still in the truck but was put on real quick.
Monday it only got up to 23 and we got 10" of sleet monday night and the roads are still covered with ice with no traffic on them gee even DFW airport was shut down this morning due to ice build up.
You can take this PA/Ohio weather back and well put it where the sun dont shine:D.

Gee Mate mine is only a 60# bow with a short draw unlike you 70# knuckle draggers:D

Congrats on the hawg! I am glad I didn' t go though, I would have been hog food for that sow, I can walk all day, but running is out of the question, to many old motorcycle injuries!

I seen your post on the vids;) unfortunately I dont have a video camera let alone some one that is game enough to follow me around:D.

Maybe Taz will handle the camera for me:D

I will be getting a vid cam soon plus I am looking for a pencil cam attachment that I can put on the brim of my cap so where I look is where I video.
Should be good tho cause you would see the whole aiming and arrow flight from the time it leaves the bow;):D

Congrats. I hunted hogs when I was living in Florida and it was great fun. I never had the pleasure of being treed though. Having to run from your quarry brings a new light to hunting. Sounds like you had a blast.

The temp had dropped to below freezing when that pick was taken.
All I had on was the coveralls, cotton shirt and that uninsulated jacket.
I was shiverin like a dog crapping razor blades:D

Congrates on the porker.I' m going to give it a whirl this year as we now have a huntable heard of pigs on our deer lease.Ours just seem to be spookier than the deer and almost totaly nocturnal.Maybe they' ll calm down now that deer season is over.Unfortunately Miss. is bassackwards and won' t allow you to hunt a ferral non game animal unless there is another season in progress.So I' ve got to wait until turkey sesaon.[:@]Maybe they' ll change the rules when they over run the state.One question I' ve heard these critters have a cartridge plate behind the shoulder,where' s the best spot to aim?

The boars have a gristle plat that covers the front shoulder so just behind the shoulder on a broadside shot or the best shot is a quartering away shot.

Hey guys,
I' m thinking of trying this hog hunting next year, but I know nothing about it.
What' s the difference between a Ferral hog, a wild boar, or a Russian Boar? Are they all good eating?
