The hunt is booked!

Well we finally booked our first out of state bowhunt. A friend and I are going to Texas in March of 2009 to hunt hogs. This is pretty exciting for me as I have never hunted outside the state of Nebraska. Any tips or adviceare more than welcome. What do you guys think of the Rage 2 blade out of my 60 lb. 82 Airbourne? Am I just asking for trouble with a mechanical broadhead on pigs? Anyone have any good sites or articles on the processingthemeat from one of these things? We have a lot of research to do but we have plenty of time. Now I can't wait for spring again!

i don't think you'd have trouble with the Rage 2 blades. they're a pretty well-built tip. Sorryi can't help ya with the processing, I haven't killed a pig yet.

Having killed dozens of pigs I would recommend using a fixed blade. Depending on shot location and the size of the hog you could have penetration problems with a mechanical head, particularly if you hit the "shield". Make sure you go to the Hogs and Exotics forums and post any questions there. Those guys are a wealth of knowledge about feral hogs.

Is this going to be a guided hunt? If so your host should take care of the meat and butchering for you. They may charge an additional fee for the service but it should be minimal and worth it.

Good luck dude!
I can only offer second hand advice but I was told by a guy who has shot a LOT of pigs, fixed head, heavy arrows and only shoot at stationary animals especially if they are big boars.
