On average 130-140 for buck and 100-115 for does

A big buck is 150+

Average bucks around here I would say are in the 135-165 range. Anything above that is pretty big.

And 100-110 for does

RE: What does your average, adult whitetail wiegh in your area ?

On average ours don't live long enough to for me to get a true understanding of what a mature buck in PA weighs.
And I go by dressed weights, live weight would be a huge guess.
But from the few mature bucks I do know the weights of...dressed out 185-200 is about normal. Occasionally you hear guys say 220 dressed, but I have a real tough time believing that from the pictures that go along with them.
Now if you took just what the average buck shot in PA weighs, it would be more like 130-150.

Mature does will usually go 130-140 dressed.
My heaviest buck went 190 & doe was 135-140.

RE: What does your average, adult whitetail wiegh in your area ?

If you ask the average hunter here incentral Michigan, you will find out that 90% of the bucks they kill weigh 200 lbs live or more. In reality the average doe weighs 100-120 lbs live and since 80+percent of the bucks are 1 1/2 years old when killed, you're looking at at 140-150 bs live. Very few bucks make it to maturity, 3 1/2 or more, but of the ones that do, 180-210 in this area of the state. Add 15 to 20 lbs to everything from southern Michigan.

Average wieght of a mature whitetail in your area.

and

Feel free to list the heaviest whitetail you have taken.

Here in my area of NJ, there is mostly private farmland. Seems that, from speaking with other hunters, the average wieght of an adult whitetail is in the 230lbs for bucks, range. 150lbs for doe range

One hunter claimed and was backed by several other hunters to have harvested a buck that wieghed 270. Who knows.

My 2.5yo buck last season dressed at 161 lbs and I killed 2 doe last year that dressed in the same area, one doe tipped the scales at 176, dressed. and the other I didnt wiegh, but she was BIG. Very rare, for me anyway.

I see these guys in the mid-west smacking 300lbs bucks and 250lbs doe !!! Thats BEAST !!
Very few and far between get this big, specially the doe's! I live in the Midwest so I see allot of these big bucks and big doe's that people shoot here in Minnesota. To this day the biggest doe I've seen that someone shot dressed out 150lbs. I know there are some that are bigger but in most cases people guess the weight rather then actually weigh the deer dressed out. In Central Minnesota a big mature buck could easily weigh 200+ early in the season. That same buck in Mid November could weigh 160lbs. They really loose allot of weight from running the doe's. As for the doe's a big doe around here is normally 130lbs dressed. During the gun season every year I always here of a few 150lbs+ doe's shot. I seen a couple last year hunting that I bet pushed 150lbs to 160lbs dressed, they were the biggest doe's I've ever seen!

My biggest doe dressed out at 120lbs.
My biggest buck dressed out at 210lbs.

I've weighed both my brothers and my bucks over the past ten years. 3.5 year olds and up have weighed in from 160 lbs dressed to 240 lbs dressed.. the average falling around 185-190 dressed in our areas.

Top end maybe, but not average. I hunt in IL and there are some monsters killed in my area. Not many bucks top out over 200 field dressed. My heaviest was 240 FD.
And a 150 pound doe is a horse, can't see them averaging that weight. My heaviest doe was 147 FD

I see these guys in the mid-west smacking 300lbs bucks and 250lbs doe !!! Thats BEAST !! Not in the Mid-West I live in. Maybe CANADA, but still rare there.
And I would also like to know how many are actually weighed on a scale. Not just by someone looking at it and saying it weighs 200 pounds.

RE: What does your average, adult whitetail wiegh in your area ?

Depends on the time of the season its taken. An October buck will generally weigh more than a mid November buck, and the mid November buck should weigh more than a late season buck due to rutting/chasing does and eluding hunters. My biggest dressed weight buck weighed in at 231 lbs. I've seen a few bucks much bigger, of course they eluded me:eek:.

Mature bucks usually go about 180lbs, meanwhile a mature doe will go about 150.

My biggest deer was a 160lbs doe, my father got a 185lbs 9 pointer and that was a hog

I would say a mature buck which I say is over 3.5 years old would weigh around 180-200lbs and a mature doe around 150,both of these are live weight.

I'd say 100-130 for a doe and 150-175 on a buck. These are averages only.Myheaviest buck was 208 and he wasn't all that old,3.5 at best.

Gospel.

Here's a Canadian buck that dressed 272, killed by my brother.

One of my other brother with a buck that was nearly as big.

Another one of his....

One of mine....

Another brother's...

Here's the buck my wife killed last fall....and we never weighed it, but it was a brute as well....

I always get a kick out of the "estimated" weights guys throw out, when I know that none of these deer we have killed come close to those numbers.....and they are far from small bodied bucks.

A buddy of mine shot one in January several years ago that wighed 279 dressed, it was 7 1/2-8 1/2 year old. Two years ago I shot a 4 1/2 year old that dressed at 247 pre rut and had to put the dang thing in my truck by myself[X(] These were the dressed weights pre the processor we use and both were killed in Kane COunty in Bow only areas where there is light hunting pressure and a heavy doe ratio.

This thread cracks me up witha coupleof the ridiculous numbers thrown out..... Anyhow....

In my area of NE Ohio most mature bucks will weigh between 180-200 pounds. Every now and then you will see one that cracks 210, but not often, in fact I only personally know of one.

Mature does usually fall into the 110-130 range. The heaviest doe I have personally sawwas 135.

In my area a mature whitetail weighs 175-200for the most part. I hope to maybe get one bigger than that some day. The aveage 2.5 year old weighs around 145-155 here.

Theaverage mature buck where I hunt averages around 120 lbs after field dressing. Very few deer where I hunt are field dressed over 150 lbs, less than 1%. Alot of the 2.5 year old 6-8 pointers will weigh in around 100 lbs.

Those are huge numbers you threw out there Droptine. I live in Illinois where they are cornfed and rarely do I see the deer top out at the weights you mentioned. They must be injected with steroids over there in New Jersey or there is no one in the state that hunts deer.

racewayking 05-17-2008 04:43 PM

RE: What does your average, adult whitetail wiegh in your area ?

I think you have to look at multiple things when discussing this topic. I hunt a lot in Kane County Illinois and most of the county is Bow only. We have a lot of Forrest Preserves, and light hunting pressure. We have heavy doe ratios and excellent food sources for deer. I sometimes get confused with the term "Cornfed Deer". Deer are not one tracked eaters and will often eat numerous different food sources in a short period of time.

I know the weight I posted might seem high but that was what we were told by the processor. Many areas of the country see a majority of the bucks killed at younger ages and bucks do in fact fill out and gain significant weight as they mature past 4.5 years of age. If you have an area with great food sources, light pressure, high doe ratios and older deer I believe you will see heavier bucks and does. I know I have seen a few monsters around my area over the years.

Ditto all that. I used to weigh every single deer we shot, so have weighed a couple hundred. NJ must have it going on, cause these midwest deer we have here in MO, IL, and IA (and apparently OH too) have nothing on those body weights.

Good pix Dan!

NOt really. Aside from the buck and doe that I mentioned DRESSED wieght, everything else is on hoof.

So the average dressed doe would tip the scales around 35lbs lighter...meaning about 110-120lbs.

mature bucks would tip the scales around the 180-200lbs range.

Why does everyone think thats so incredibly heavy ?
They are all shooting 1.5-2.5 year olds;)

I would say in my area of Pa, the average adultbuck, not to be confused with mature (they rarely live long enough),would be around 150lbs. The average doe would be about 110-120lbs.These are live weights. My largest buck (in my avatar),weighed 300lbs live weight, but I killed him in Alberta.;) Here's my horse.:D

A mature buck around here usually dresses around 170-210. Depending on the buck and time of year, the size can be much larger or even smaller. My 06' buck dressed out and tipped the scales at 267. One of the biggest bodied bucks i've seen around here. But it was before the rut, with plenty of optimal food sources nearby. He had thick layers of fat everywhere.

Most mature Bucks in this area will field dress 200#+ The biggest I've shot and weighed 240# Field Dressed. I have shot several Bucks that field dressed 200# to 210#
