do you protect your spots
I have a few spots that I like to keep secret but at the same time if the right person is hunting with me I will let him/her in my best spot - It is not all about the trophys but the time spent together - hunting is becoming to much of a competition today in my opinion
I am in a bowhunting only club about half the members don't care if others hunt theirstands and some will argue to death that it isn't right How do feel bout it |
RE: do you protect your spots
I have a couple spots that I do not tell anyone. The main reason is that Ijust do not want alot of traffic in the area.

RE: do you protect your spots
To be veryhonest about it, I'm secretive about my bowhunting. I go back to my spots by myself almost exclusively. Just the way I am.;)

RE: do you protect your spots
normally only tell family about the best spots i find
and my best friend |
RE: do you protect your spots
Me, my brother and Gri22ly share spots, careful not to burn them out. We always make sure to keep atleast one or two 'hot spots' fresh. As far as anyone else, I lie my pants off about where we hunt and what we see. People around here will screw your eyeballs out if you let on your on to a good deer.

RE: do you protect your spots
I have no problem helping people out that are new to an area or just asking what or if I'm having any luck! The guys I hunt with we share the spots and what we see. There was one of our friends that would claim a spot as his and wanted NO one hunting there except him or someone he brought with him, needless to say we no longer hunt with him!;) The family, well were family so we hunt and share all things with hunting, there would be no other way! I like to see everyone be successful!

RE: do you protect your spots
There are spots in Michigan that are sacred to me...and there are members on this forum that I would give the opportunity to...even on opening day.....I give my secrets to my close friends....and when its just me....I creap into the woods before all of my drunk hunting partners.....when the statistics add up...I sometimes receive a trophy for my extra efforts.....but I do give away my hot spots to my friends....but I'm usually over their shoulder with a video cam..[8D]

RE: do you protect your spots
The way I was raised you didn't even talk about hunting or traping spots. My dad was a trapper, and man everthing was top secret. He hated to be seen by anyone while out running the line.I would guess it was to protect his line from theives.I think some rubbed off on me.I only tell a select few whereand what I've seen.I didn't even want my kids talking about where we hunted.

RE: do you protect your spots
i keep most of my spots secret unless its somebody i know and trust and has the same hunting characteristics as me meaning they are scent cautious, and will only kill mature deer and will not tell anybody about the spot

RE: do you protect your spots
I was down at the fuel station one day, filling my slip tank with diesel, alocal guy I know drives up and we start bullchitting about elk and whitetails. He then tells me he knows who hasthe sheds to a big buck I killed a year earlier, I said oh really, I'd love to see them and ifyou don't mind would can you give me a general idea of wherethey werefound ... Of course guys love to talk so he goes on...He says sure,he found them right out there behind your place, just over the ridge, I said oh really, I sold that place 2 years ago! I live about 50 miles away from there and had killed the buck he was referencing about 40 miles from where he claimed he had found his sheds.. (That buck of mine sure must of hadone hell of aRANGE!)
Yeah, I dont talk to anyone locally about where I hunt. Never. To many guys around here think that its only about location when thats onlypart of it. They don't realize they have a big bruiser buck living in their area too and the buck just has them andmost all hunterspatterned much better than they do him. I know I don't really have any better spots in my hunting areasimo than others, I just get to know the area and the animals that run around it much better than most. |
RE: do you protect your spots
The more people that know, the more chance of others finding out, period!
So I learned that loose lips equals losing hunting spots. So now, my wife will have an idea where I am when I go out for safety along with 1 or 2 buddies that don't hunt. |
RE: do you protect your spots
land mines & razor wire.

RE: do you protect your spots
Depends on who Im talking to.
Friends and family Ill tell only if they know were Im talking about. But if an aquantence came upand asked... No I would not tell. |
RE: do you protect your spots
ORIGINAL: rybohunter land mines & razor wire. Mygood spots are good spots for a reason...it took me the time and effort to scout and learn the environment. The hell if Im gonna share it with anyone. Even my best buddy I hunt with has his special stands and areas, so in our case its a given! I will tell someone about a place, but wouldnt walk them to it and show them the creek and the tree. |
