do you prefer a field or the woods

What is your favorite environment to hunt deer in? My is a toss up between a standing cornfield and a swamp bottom -

Early season I tend to stay on the edges, but as the season goes on, I keep moving deeper.

I like hunting on the edge of the woods, maybe 15 yrds in, overlooking a bean or corn field. That is if the woods are at least 30 acres or so. Late in the season though, I usually gotta go deeper into the bottoms.

Sept 15th thru the first week of Oct I hunt field edges and where fingers enter fields and try for deer Ive been glassing. After that I move to staging areas until acorns start hitting the ground, then I hunt Oak flats and Oaks at creek bottoms, then its rut time which I never know what Im doing until when I get there lol.

I LOVE edges. Deer are attracted to edges. I spend most of my time on this one. It's a HUGE thicket where it meets the woods.;)

On the edge in early season and during the pre rut and rut usually where ever I see the most buck sign. Its usually in the deep, thick part of the woods.

I hunt the edges the first couple weeks. I'll move deeper in the woods as my season goes, then late, late season I'm on the edges of the food sources depending on the weather and snow cover!

I hunt marsh lands and woods that border thickets or grassy praries almost all season.Due to the pressure where I huntthe deerare always hiding in these areas.Very similar to early ins picture.

Great looking spot early and the prove is right there - looks ideal to kill a biggun especially when the others start pressuring the land

Hardwood forests where they transition from one type of cover to another, kind of like inside edges of cover--even though I would love to hunt on field edges and kill big bucks like the guys on the videos do.....the reality for me is that 99% of the bucks where I hunt would not be caught dead walking in the daylight hours of a field....and even if I had a choice, I love the big woods and beautiful scenery that goes along with it.

wished I had a pic of one of latest spots - It is a narrow strip of Oaks that leads out into the field- there is a drainage ditch that runs from the end of this strip to the road - perfect funnel, they use the ditch for cover, coming out of the cutover and I am right at that point - killed three does there and another fellow killed a huge 10 point there last Nov

Thanks, I really love the spot. I'm having trouble posting one more pic. I'll try again. Finally.

It's very surprising how little pressure this spot gets. These pics were taken after I shot my 7pt and spooked a 10pt.:D:D

Where the deer are at, generally 200 or 300 hundred yards off a field.

around here in southern wisconsin hunting edges is basically all we do. Most woodlots are less than 60 acres so you almost have to hunt the edges to avoid busting the whole woods. As for my favorite set ups, i love a stand next to a standing corn field. Never can tell whats gonna come out when that corn starts rustling.

Fields in September.
Water, end of September to mid October.
White Oaks, mid October to first of November.
Funnels, primary scrapes, and doe bedding, first of November to midNovember.
Thickest stuff I can find, mid November to December.
Then whatever food source is available, December on.

As others have said, I like to stick to the edges early season. As the season progresses, I tend to move further and further in. Another good early season stand is along a creek or a pond. Doesn't matter if it's on an edge or not. Warm early season temps lead to awesome setups near water.

I agree one thing I like about hunting fields is that you get to see more deer. but they might not always be close.;)
