This is how I see a trophy also.Well said Mobow.
ORIGINAL: mobow
Well, I used to regard each deer I shot w/ archery tackle as a trophy. Not anymore. I don't even take pics of the does anymore. I view it as an accomplishment, but not a trophy. I'm proud of them, and I enjoy eating them, but not a trophy.
To me, a true trophy is something more. I'm not sure how to word this....Ummmm......Ok, for instance......I wouldn't drive a doe around and show my buddies anymore. I MAY call and tell them, but I'm not going to "show it off" anymore. A trophy, to me anyway, is something I would drive to my buddies house and say hey...Lookie what I did. It's special. Different.
I hope that makes sense anyway.

To me, it's not as much the size of the animal, but what I had to do to get it.
I am super proud of some old does that I have arrowed, more proud ofthan some of the bucks.

RE: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER A TROPHY ANIMAL ?
When I first started any deer would cover my trophy status. My first doe I'll remember forever. I love them all and in a way they all are a trophy to me. However, The hunt is more the trophy for me. The memory. I think thats what the trophy is all about to me. I have most of my deer but a few I forgot to take pics or lost them. I don't shoot a ton of deer. 1-2 a year at most. There have been several years it was tag soup for me. However, I always challenge myself to up the bar each year. Either in size of deer or the way I hunt. This year I was fortunate enough to kill my best buck to date, a 153 inch 10 point. This has raised the bar for me. But not just in size of the deer. I'd love to take one with a bow I made. I'd love to get my oldest girl her first deer (my main goal for next season) I think it will be hard for me to top my 2007 buck but who knows its a goal. I'm not going to be that picky though, if a 100" buck walks by and I have a selfbow in hand...he'll have a bad day. :-) Or a nice non-typical ...
So I guess my thoughts are its natural for you trophy expectations to get higher as you succede in hunting. I take pics of all of them so I can go back and relive those moments. Thats the biggest thing for me.
