What will you carry...
in your pack this season?
Just curious as to what everyone will carry to the stand this season. Any new items you will carry? Mine will consist of: 1. MAD Grunt call 2. Primos Estrous Can 3. Rattling Horns (Real) 4. 2 Knives 5. Ratchet Pruners 6. Compass 7. GPS 8. Small Zip Lock of Spare Parts (String Loop, Hex Drivers, Ect.) 9. Range Finder 10. Binos 11. Flagging Tape 12. TP 13. Water Bottle 14. Snacks/Energy Bars 15. Headlight 16. Spare Batteries 17. Digital Camera and/or Handycam 18. Dead Down Wind Wipes 19. Extra Release 20. Pull-up Rope 21. Can of Skoal (Apple Flavor) 22. Lighter/Matches 23. Screw in Bow/Equip Holder (24. Thermacell and Ruger .22 MAG for early season) Man, this is a list. I don't hunt right next to a road or houses though. I have to be a little prepared. So let's hear from the rest of you guys. This may help some get prepared ahead of time. LT |

I was going to make a comment about ...how big of a back pack you will need...and then I thought for a second.....I do keep most of that in my truck that I can get to after the kill...

Yeah, MW it actually all fits into my Predator Camo Backpack. I even have a little room to spare. My truck is parked a good 3/4 to a mile from my stands so I really don't want to go all the way out and back in if you know what I mean. This pack I have is super nice. Lots of pockets and no zippers. All elastic or flap/lock closures. Saddlecloth and super quiet.

Well you pretty much nailed it on the head! I would hafta throw in the Blood hound light tho but most of the time i go back to the house before tracking the deer.

I look at this on a computer screen and it looks like a ton...but in reality when I pull everything out of my clothes and roncho safari back quiver...its pretty darn close...

This is just off the top of my head 1. True Talker grunt call 2. Binocs 3. Digital Camera (hopefully a video camera by next year) 4. Hunting Knife 5. Razor Blades (sometimes thats just easier) 6. Flashlight 7. Estrous (when the time comes) 8. Small towel to clean up blood |

OKbowhunter, I know it seems like a lot. It may be to some. I have gotten caught in the past in certain situations though that were out of the norm. Some of the stuff is just personal preference, but most of it could mean the difference in a good day or crying in your Fruit Loops.[:-]

you guys forgot the most important thing of all, Tags to fill out! another little thing that i carry is one of those cheap little knife sharpeners. sometimes after getting half way through gutting a deer and cutting through the ribcage your knife dulls up, a couple strokes touches it up a little. Like the old saying goes
"a dull knife is more dangerous then a sharp one" |

qmil, you are right about the tags, but the knives I carry hold an edge pretty good. I do all dressing of deer at home.

I really don't carry a pack.
I carry in my pocket: knife cell phone flashlight grunt call coyote call bow hook thin hoist rope sometimes my camera and binos around my neck! I used to carry in with me on every hunt all things I "might" need, not any more! I have a separate cleaning pack that I'll go back to the truck and get once I shoot a deer, no matter how far the walk! This gives the deer time to expire and I can drop off stuff I DON"T need while I clean then drag my deer out! This cleaning pack has an extra flashlight, water, towel, saw, drag rope and cleaning gloves. |

2. bino's 3. GPS 4. couple of knives 5. rope 6. can call 7. pen 8. pack of Marlboro's & lighter 9. towelettes 10. extra tab 11.extra bowstring 12. bottle of water and snacks 13. probably a few other things I can't remember off-hand |

I used to pack in a pack load of stuff. Don't do that anymore, I am a firm believer in the KISS method. Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Wind checker 1 Knife Water thermacell scent elimination spray grunt call GPS flagging tape That's pretty much it. I have a bag on my stand that has my pull up rope and a limb saw in it, as well as a screw in step. I can carry that stuff in a small fanny pack. |

The biggest addition for this season will be the Sony Handicam and either a tripod for traditional hunting from blinds or the bow camera mount.
Been filming during turkey season for the first time ever and you guys that haven't bit the bullet and bought even a decent Handicam are really really missing the boat on capturing some great memories. |

2. grunt call 3. "the can" 4. surefire flashlight 5. extra batteries 6. soda 7. jerkey 8. head net 9. releases 10. scent away spray 11. a pen 12. marking tape I think that is it! I dont have to long a walk and normally when I shoot one I walk back to the vehicle and take off my hunting clothes and put on tracking clothes(they are still scent free ...just not my hunting clothes). |

I've never even had to take a whiz from stand. My sits are typically in the 4-6 hour range. |

I guess I keep it pretty simple compared to some. If I'm in my Summit, I have two side bags with all my stuff in them, like my Prussic, saw, light, grunt call, EZ hanger, handicam and arm. That's about it. If I'm in a hang-on then that stuff is in my pack. I keep some TP in a pocket of my pants. I used to carry everything I owned, now I keep it to a bare minimum.

Screw in Bow/Equip Holder I don't carry all of this all of the time. I often take the mini pack portion off of my Cabela's pack and carry less early season. Later I use the full pack and put my coat in it until I settle in my stand. After looking at this I think I need less can calls:eek: |

I dunno.....I've had people leave the turkey blind to go 1 and 2.....and knowpeople (hunting with me)climb down from their stand, also, to go....
I've just never thought about it. Never thought it odd, either. Gotta remember also.....I'm either 1/4 mi. from my truck in one woodlot.....or "at most" .7 mi. from my house on foot. It's called CONTROL:D |

Don't carry a pack.. find them to much of a burden on my scent control.
I only carry what I can via pocket.. or lanyard.. nothing more. |

Range finder Binos knife water small light gps (depends where I am hunting) compass snack hooks whistle (depends where I am hunting) Cell Phone (depends where I am hunting) primos can call hunting license Safety harness A big smile because I am going to be spending time in the great outdoors:D (Depends on where I am hunting is either near my house, relatives house orup in the northern woods of maine) Usually all goes in my pockets |
