RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
I would contact your local prosecutor and/or a lawyer just to see what your rights are before you start making a bunch of waves. A phone call from either of these may get you more results than going to your local police station or DNR office and throwing a fit. Maybe even get your state rep in on it.
If it is not worth pursuing you may cause more trouble for yourself than it's worth. If you get the media involved and you are wrong things may not go well for you. You might even be liable for a lawsuit yourself. Paul |

Im very curious to hear Quiksilvers response to this thread...... I am sure he can try to shine some perspective on the issue?? Where are you at???

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
I wouldalso like to see you post the pics of the game warden. If you are sure you are not at fault I would raise hell. I can't really understand why they would take your s/d card though or why they haven't contacted a land owner immediately. I have to thing that there is something about this story we aren't getting.

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
Well as a DNR employee for my respective state it all just really seems odd to me. I would say there are various reasons why he may have driven back to check your feeder and I sure would not have found fault with him for doing that. You have a feeder set up and it is during turkey season. Thats probable cause to me.
If you run to the newspapers likeso manyare suggesting, what are you going to give them? A picture of a conservation officer, checking a feeder, during turkey season, and your card is missing. I dont see any breaking story there. Lots of facts missing. I wouldn't run to the press right away. If I was a bettin' man, I'd say they may be investigating you at the same time you are investigating them. Otherwise this guy just put his career on the line for an SD memory card. |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
We have not killed any turkeys on our farm this season. It is 100% legal to feed both deer and turkeys here you just can't hunt over any bait while turkey hunting. We feed year round at our feeders which is perfectly legal to do. When we do turkey hunt the property we never hunt near the feeders. So we haven't broken any laws whatsoever.
I just can'tunderstand why he was standing at the feeder (Which is well over 1/2 mile from any road) and feltlike it was okayto open up my camera and remove the SD card. I know no one has reportedhearing any shots due to thefact that we onlyhuntthe turkeys on this farm witharchery equipment. Before posting the pictures I think I willjust call up the DNR officer and ask him myself why hefelt it was neccessary to remove the SD card andwhy he was walking around on my property to begin with. |

When we do turkey hunt the property we never hunt near the feeders. I don't think I could get away with this in NC. I know I couldn't on the properties I hunt. |

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
I agree, it's easy to say "we don't hunt near the feeders" but hard to prove that you haven't.
[/quote] True, but the DNR would have to prove that we did hunt near the feedersnot just assume that we did. Which they can't because we have never hunted anywhere close to them. |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
Maybe the DNR officer took the SD card to see if there were any pictures of you hunting turkeys on it.

Prosecute what are you waiting for????

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
There is nothing you can do unless you have that kind of money to prosecute a county employee. Having finger prints done cost mony. I'm not sure how wealthy you are but to be honest its not worth it. You would have to get a lawyer, pay court fees an so forth. It would be a lot easier to get a new SD card and maybe this time put the camera in a tree or hide it better this time.
Another thing you could do is call the better buisness beraeau and let them know. They would love to give them a hard time for you hands down. If you went to the office and with just pictures and not actual proof of catching him in the act you can't do much. He will just deny it and be set free and keep his job. I would set one up on the opposite end watching that camera and see if he does it again. |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
Hank..
Where I hunt.....it's small parcels. I'd have to watch it if I was hunting MY property that was adjacent to yours (if you were feeding). They don't play about baiting turkeys in NC.;) I'm interested to hear the other side of this.....and I mean nothing other than getting to the bottom of why they did what you say they did. You've got more patience than I.....if you're sure you were doing nothing wrong. |

In this case it's what you can't disprove. Unless you have people that can vouch you've never hunted by the feeder, you may have problems unfortunately. While I seriously hope it never comes do this for you, I'd start getting prepared for it. |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
If someone trespasses or breaks in my house and steals it does not cost money to call the police and file a report with the evidence. They do the investigation thats there job no charge to you except come tax time!:D

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
Do you know the laws on how close you CAN hunt to the feeders?
Its why "most" people here stop feeding (deer and turkeys) during turey season. It takes all doubt out of the equation. |

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
I think that it has been established that (considering the great power that Game Wardens do have to enter property) the guy could easily make the case for probable cause to be on the property. Hell, in Illinois all they have to do is claim they heard a gunshot in that general direction and they can walk all over your property. However, seizing property is another issue, and I would be very interested to see how it gets resolved..

RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
So in other words if he wants to give you a ticket forit there is really nothing you can do about. IMO....I'd let this drop....before you got into more than you bargained for (The prosecution threats, anyways). I'm betting they're building a case....and your gear is evidence. Was anyone hunting there? You didn't hunt there? Any? |

Take your shots at me in another manner BC.....
I never called anyone a liar. I asked a few post back if he knew if anyone else was hunting the property. IF ANYONE hunted that property...(with or without his knowledge).....what would the GW be left to think? I actually couldn't care less what you believe. |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
watched this for a while,. and it has gone too many paths...the main issue is what is the definition of "containment area" I did a quick search and it appears to not be in the definitions section...
but if he came on your property, took your property, and did nto notify you of anything, leave note, inform, seek to inform or anything, the simplest thing that could be stated is he was acting rudely... worst case, he has unjustly removed personal property, and potentially attempting to conceal or tamper with evidence... either way, you need to document (preferably pictures date stamped) but I think you have probably moved the camera, and or have driven over property...if there are still tire tracks from their entrance, I would take pics of those...if there are footprints in mud or dirt, I would take pics of those... either way this goes down, he who can prove the most, and has the best documentation...will win...if they ahve evidence, and you have none...then all you have is an internet thread with a bunch of opinions... |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
You could put a dozen rakes or so all around your trailcams.. then when the officer comes back he'll step on one or two and the handle will fly up and hit him square in the face.:)
Of course.. then he might just steal all your rakes too..:( |

I look you square in the eyes and say it. Taking shots is your game. Its so simple its sad. One, you have no idea of the people or the area. Two, you either believe the guy or you don't. Why sit there and debate with him when you don't have a clue. I seriously do not get you on these pages. You post post after post baiting and argueing thousands upon thousands of post. You cry when people buries you, but then turn around and do the same to others and then you wonder why. Again, the paris hilton of bowhunting. Fits you to a tee. |
RE: What Should I do, Caught DNR Stealing My Stuff???
I've read through this whole thing, and I still don't know how you know thathe is the one who took the card. I see where you got a pic of the officer, but is there something on your camera that says when the card was taken out?
From personal experience, there are two pieces of advice: Don't piss into the wind, and don't mess with the DNR unless you want to see ALOT more of them around your property. Chalk it up to a lost memory card and let it die. I know, this isn't the most manly thing to do, but in the end, I think you're better off. P.S. Get rid of the feeder for a while too, nothing to worry about then. |
