ladder stands
Does anyone use these every year with consistency - I am thinking of purchasing a few for the lease - they will be 15fters and If I can conceal them I believe they might work out - would be nice to have a stand in place ahead of time -

RE: ladder stands
All I use is ladder stands, I have 6 of them. I leave them oout all year long.
|
RE: ladder stands
what is your typical height for the stands
|
RE: ladder stands
I like ladder stands myself. They're cheaper and as long as the deer have a chance to get used to seeing them, they should work just fine for you.
|
RE: ladder stands
I have 7, the lowest is a 12 footer. My Dad killedTWO 170 class bucks from that stand in consecutive years (05-06).The rest are 15'. . .they've all produced.

RE: ladder stands
I have several, and Jawshooter has almost 15 of them at his place. We hunt them a lot with great success. Dick's Sporting Goods has a great deal on them every year, I got mine for $49 each as a 15' model, and for another $20 each you can buy 5' extensions making them 20'.

RE: ladder stands
i like em, make sure to get them with big platforms, as its hard to turn to the side for a shot with boots on
i typacally am up 15-17 feet in ladder stands |
RE: ladder stands
My son uses about four ladder stands from 12' to 15' and had great luck using them. we just brush them in a bit and try to get a good back drop cover.
|
RE: ladder stands
I have a couple that are 15' and they work out alright. I prefer to set them up against larger Oaks or in Cedar trees.
|
RE: ladder stands
I have one 15-20' that I leave up year round. I've hunted it a few times. Never took a deer out of it, but have seen quite a few in it. Only downside is they're kind of cumbersome to move on your own.

RE: ladder stands
I love my ladderstand and have had great success out of it year after year.

RE: ladder stands
That is all I have ever hunted out of, ummmm bowhunted for the 1st time in 1983. (gun 1982)
Most of ours are wooden home-made jobs, sitting at about 12-13' up, gotta have a good back drop, and find a tree they can drop into, no telephone pole type of trees, get them branchy, bushy ones, and make a spot to lean the stand into. We currently have about 20 wood stands, 5-6 double metal stands 15', 4 single 15' metal stands, and 3 20' single metal stands. Been thinking about getting a climber but any spot that I might think about using it, there is a stand within bow range ;) |
RE: ladder stands
Great - appreciate the responses fellows - I got the direction I am thinking of heading - should work out well, lots of large oaks, pines, and cedars to help blend in, I am also going to camo paint them before putting out and leave them outside two months prior to taking them to the woods

RE: ladder stands
I am suprised at the positive responses to ladder stands. Actually shocked! I have had nothing but bad results from ladder stands. Even when I try to hide them real well. I pick trees for my climber or lock on that have great background cover and or trees that are large enough to hide my outline. Even then they are looking up and can pickme out.

RE: ladder stands
My dad loves them, and I hate them. He has about 10 of them, and uses them with success, I won't sit in them.
|
RE: ladder stands
I like the 2 person ladder stands. Great to take the wife or kids and when your by yourselfyou have lots of room. Not very easy to setup. I found you got to watch what ladder stand you get.Seems most are made for gun hunters and they do not work well for bow.

RE: ladder stands
I have 4 and hope to add a few more. They are great if you can leave them up year round. They go up easy, they are safe and quiet and really cheap compared to some others. The really fit the way I hunt best. I put them up in the spring and summer and by the time season comes in the deer pay no attention to them.

RE: ladder stands
We have 22 on 600 acres that we leave up all year round. Most are 15ft high.

RE: ladder stands
My buddy and I built 4 of them this year @ 17' each, I bet I saw 50+ dear out of them all within bow range. Now if I could just get another shot at that booner I will have a story for ya.
