How many parcels do you hunt?
Really, my intent is to see how many properties you have that you regularly turkey hunt, since I have the opportunity to have a few pieces other than my home property to hunt, but include deer hunting as well. The reason I'm asking is from discussions back in early winter from Quick in particular, that it might be in my best interest not to just limit myself to one piece of property (I hunt almost exclusively on our 90 acres). I feel that especially in turkey season, our property is hit or miss with holding the birds. That is, some weeks there patterned on our property, then all of a sudden, they're roosting consistantly on our neighbor across the mountain. It would be nice (and you guys who hunt multiple tracts) to be able to have a Plan B, so to speak, to fall back onto when things aren't working out on one property. Thoughts?

RE: How many parcels do you hunt?
In the past it was always one. This year I've gotten motivated by need. I have found 4 places to hunt and don't have to pay for any of them. they are 346, 212, 67, and 30 acres respectivly. I am really looking forward to this season! Only the largest of the 3 holds turkeys. It is a 4 hour drive from home and I'll be making that drive after work today! :D

1 100 acre farm
1 250 acre farm 1 700 acre farm (only 30 acres of hardwoods) 1 40 acre farm I also acquired a couple places to hunt in Northern MO this fall. I've not been to them yet, and I'm not exactly sure how large or small they are. I also have several thousand acres of public ground at my disposal. Actually, it's 3 different places with a combined nearly 15,000 acres. |

One parcel only. A little over 40 acres with about 1/3 in fields and 2/3 in woods.

RE: How many parcels do you hunt?
So do you guys find yourself alternating between properties based on activity, wind direction, days, or a combination of all of the above?
I currently have access to our 90acres, our cabins 1200acres (15 minutes away, but activity is somewhat less than my home range, so I don't tend to hunt there as much), and for turkey's, my 90acres, and my sister's ~20 acres about 10 minutes away. |
RE: How many parcels do you hunt?
As many as I can, right out my back door I am on a 3500 acre lease, 5 minutes up the road is a Wildlife management area which is 65,000 acres of public land. 20 minutes from me is FORT POLK Wildlife management area which is 105,000 acres of public land, and right across from there is Kisatchie national forest which has several thousand acres. Also live on some land that I can hunt aswell. Then every year in Jan. I go on a 3-4 day hunting trip to a WMA which is about 2 hours away and it has about 15,000 acres public land. So finding hunting ground isnt to big of a deal for me. Except my hunting club ( 3500 behind my house ) has gone up to 400 dollars a year, but it isnt private land so i can kinda manage how I see fit. DOnt have to worry about somebody stealing my stands or cameras. I plant food plots and even put out corn.
