what colour of fletching?
Hey gang, just wondered what you'd recommend as good colours for fletchings? I chose red and yellow.
Pics would be great too :D |

Its spelled COLOR here in America! LOL. I try to use a light COLOR. Most of my arrows have been capped and crested with a white base color and then fletched with 2 white and 1 flourescent yellow Blazer. The reason I've done this is for better visibility both for seeing point of impact and finding the arrow after the shot. It also helps determine the type of blood on the arrow. The white makes it pretty easy to tell if you hit lungs , guts, etc.

This is all personal preference but I like green, yellow, and white. These three colors seem to be the easiest for me to see at dawn/dusk as the arrow is in flight.

Kidding, im only winding you up, my boyfriend has the same problem living here - he has to spell everything to UK standards lol. I ordered yellow and red do you reckon that is bright enough? |

It should be if you use the red as the cock feather or vane. The 2 yellows should show up well. Have you considered capping and cresting or using wraps. They really help with visibility. The member Onestringer makes custom wraps at a very reasonable price. Look up his work in the archery classified forum.

Excuse Greg R/G he works at a school but doesn't want to ask a student to research your sig. line!:eek:I fletched my arrows with flo pink/white,the cock vane is white.I got my daily ration of grief over my colour choice...I dish it out so I'll take it:).Everyone eyes adjust different to colors...yours maybe the best for your eyes.I need to get glasses myself.;)

Personally I like to use 3 black 4" feathers. Guess it's just a hanger-on from my old field and target days---30+ years ago. I was coached by a pro and he always drummed into my head that all I should be doing is aiming till my arrow hit it's intended target. The mind should be doing nothing else. Therefore I never found a need to see my arrow going, and still don't. I know where it is going by just knowing where my pin was when the bow went off.

My dogue has a Gaelic name,Brayden(the ex said so...so I wonder)...he's French with Gaelic name living in west Texas...thats cultural diversity.:D

I was told once that pink was a good choice for fletchings since it's the only color that doesn't naturally appear in the woods. True or not, I'm not sure, but I never had any reason to disbelieve it. I generally use two yellow blazers and one orange, though. Pink never seems to be available when I go to purchase fletchings and I just want the brightest possible. I guess I'm a little hesitant to use white since I hunt with snow on the ground quite a bit.

I use all white fletching with a white nock and white wrap or cap dip.Snow has never been a problem--there's usually blood on it;)

Pink may not be the most macho color but with the property getting logged a few years back, there is an abundance of pink logging tape all around and it is very easy to see, even little scraps and pieces, now you would think a arrow with orange and white vanes would be easy to find? Looked for one of those for a couple hours this spring, never found it, even have it on tape falling out of the deer, but found 4-5 chunks of that logging tape, makes me think that might be what the hunting arrows will be fletched with this year, with maybe a nice white wrap also........ |

I like 1 white and 2 blue withwhite nocks.Been doing it for years. Not to much in the woods that is blue.

Fluorescent yellow and white with a fluorescent yellow wrap.
Very bright in the sun.  And on good days they look like this.  |

ORIGINAL: DropTine249 Uh....white is always a good color. I like 2 white and 1 florecent color. The white fletch can be just another tool for you to use after a good shot gone bad, or a shot that you feel may have missed. Just pull up those binos and glass up the arrow. Blood will be easy to see, especially if using a white or light colored arrow wrap. The white and florecent will stand out in the undergrowth as well, so retrieving that ever so expensive arrow, will be made a little easier. Wait, you cnat even hunt with a bow in the UK. I reccomend a white or bright florecent tracer round for your 30.06 !! It isn't really a big deal that we cannot bowhunt here, I have cash to spend and holidays to take, plus I can rifle hunt here. ;) |
