How's everyone's turkey season going?

I have been gone 4-ever, and have not been able to hunt this year myself so I thought I would stop in to see how everyone's turkey season went?

Well I am no Turkey hunter Sarah, but its nice to see you post something again.
And tell Don to drop in to and give us an update on all those big game animals you all are gonna get to hunt this fall. How you liking it out there?

LOL, that was always my story when it came to turkey hunting. I went out 3 seasons in a row and never even got a bird in close enough. Last season was the first time I even saw birds :)

LOL! You know, my dad tried hard to get me into turkey hunting for about 5 years before I agreed to give it a shot. I'm from the city, but I've been hunting at the family cabin since I was a kid, and never once saw a turkey until I started hunting them :D. I've been lucky though, this is year 3 for me, and I'm 2/2 so far . .let's hope the streak stays alive!!

My Turkey season went well here in Wisconsin, I killed a real niced Tom with the Shotgun. I'll be going after them in Michigan this month with the Longbow!

Good to see you back Sarah! Don't be a stranger!

Mine has been great so far. Shot two Rios in Kansas and filmed another. We have three birds down on film in IL so far and I have 4 days left to hunt next week.

It was a fast start for me in PA. Last saturday on the opener, I called in one mature tom, and a jake...missed the gobbler[:@] Since then, I haven't heard a peep when going out to roost them. Can't hunt much during the week due to work, but I'll be back at it come this saturday.

My score for this turkey season is a big ZERO. Never even heard a gobble, unless you count the birds behind my house.
Maybe next year.

My season does not even start for another 10 days. Drew a 5th season tag in Illinois. Taking my girlfriend on her first longbeard hunt. Hoping she will at least hear a gobble or see a bird. Tried out our blind for two. A little snug but she's tiny. Looking forward. Scheduled some work over by the property,90 minutes away, so I can at least scout once. She has been practicing her broadheads for 3 weeks.

Hey Sarah,

Good to see you post again, and I'm sorry to hear about you and Don. My season went good, my first day out I saw a single hen but heard a good bit of gobbling from one bird. My second day out I heard atleast five different birds, and I was able to call in a hen with some aggressive cutting and fighting purrs. Luckily she brought in this guy..

Good to hear from you Sarah, hopefully you will stick around.

Had a good opener in PA last weekend, put down my largest ever (25lbs) and I have a 3 day weekend this weekend to call for a few buddies and hopefully help them tag one too.

RE: How's everyone's turkey season going?

The birds have won the first battles, but the war isn’t over.
I’m 0-1 with my longbow on a strutting longbeard at 12/13 yds.
I’m also 0-1 on a tough snapshot at a fleeing tom with the shotgun.

Despite the misses, I am having a good season, in 3 hunts I’ve called gobblers in each time. Hoping to seal the deal this weekend.

Matt, that is a huge bird. Congrats

Good to see you back on here Sarah. I'm trying to rival Hunsucker this year on turkey killing. I think I have him on percentages, but he's got me on birds. He is a turkey killing machine. I've been on 5 (4 filming, 1 hunting)hunts and we've killed birds on 4 of them.

So I've been having a pretty ridiculous season. Here are some pics:

Kylee and her first turkey:

Karl and his first of the year (he's gotten 2 in NJ, 1 in PA and missed 1 in PA):

Little Jack and his first bird:

Welcome back Sarah!! Its good to see you around again, I wish you both the best. As for turkeys I didn't get a license this year, next year will be my 1st try at it. I'm excited to give it a run!! Good luck hunting this year if you make it out in the woods!

So far, my season is going great! Lots of birds down, and all on video.

Sorry to hear about your situation, and I sure hope it all works out for you in the end.

They say that everything happens for a reason..........good luck!:)

I got a 31 yard shot at a big strutting tom on April 15th - arrow hit a little low of center chestand he wound up with about 16" of arrow sticking out his backside. After some thrashing around, he managed to break off the Easton Axis FMJ about even with his body and made off into the tamarisk jungle. Didn't bleed a drop - presumably because the nock end of the arrow was still stuck in his body, plugging the hole.

Kind of a disappointment - but got the whole thing on video for posterity. And a broken/bent Axis FMJ to hang on the trophy wall. [8D]

It's been tough for me in Oklahoma. Lot's of birds but the hens are late leaving them this year. Many encounters but they just wont work a call for me. Never had a season like this before.
