RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

All and all i probably have around 300+ acres to hunt private w/ permission. But my main deer hunting land is behind my house of 75 acres.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I have three properties I hunt that are private but I do go out of state or hunt public in southern Illinois. I live in a county where our forest preserves are overun with deer yet there is no hunting for population control.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

im probably about equal...spend a fair amount of time on game lands and such and a fair amount of time on private land...but...pretty much all my private land can be hunted by anyone...

size varies from a 5 or 10 acre private apple orchard to small woodlots and farmland to 10,000+ acre gamelands....

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I hunt both public and private.

Things are a lot different here in the south. We have hunting clubs. Its very rare that you find one man that can afford the lease of land by himself. We can thank the timber companies for that. SC has some of the highest land lease prices in the US. Again, thank the timber companies for that.

SC has some of the best low pressured public land in the south east. and i hope it stays that way with lease prices as high as $45 an arce.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

private-owned with about 260 acres

salukipv1 04-29-2008 10:26 PM

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

Private-lease should be up there......

here/home in IL, private exclusively, out west....almost always public, seems they actually have some quality public hunting out west......

or the majority of guys out there hunt public......as opposed to here

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

In California & Arizona, it's all mainly public, some private in Central & northern California, about 90% of my hunting is public, the other 10% is for hogs on private land.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

Private lease. 1 is 2200 acres and the other is 1000 acres. They are about 7 miles apart. Very little public land here to hunt so if you want to hunt you have to pay.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I exclusively hunt Public property. I'm not from this area and I don't have the family ties it takes to get permission to hunt private property around here.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I hunt mostly on public land. I do have permission to a few private properties that I hunt as well on occasion. To be honest, the public land I hunt is just as good as any of the private land in my area and the tracts are large enough that it's not hard to get away from other hunters generally.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I hunt public land but I do have permission to huntfour peaces of private land ranging from 40 to 120 acres. I never hunt the private land becauseitreceives more pressurethan the public land[&:]

virginiashadow 04-30-2008 06:34 AM

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

Public about 99% of the time. Wish I had some private property to exclusively hunt...I would treat it like gold.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I own 130 acres and I have permission to hunt my neighbors that is 120 Acres. So 250 acres of private. That is surrounded by over 3000 acres of county land. I hunt the county once in a while.

Public land all the time ... it's very seldom that I get a chance to hunt some private land

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

Private with permission and some private family owned. I stay away from public land as it never really has worked out for me. I have a low tolerance for BS

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I hunt mostly private but have some decent public land near by my house.

Gundeck 04-30-2008 09:03 AM

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

Private (almost exclusively). I own part and the other part I have exclusive permission to hunt. It is only a little over 40 acres total, but it does just fine for me.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

All my deer hunting is done on private land, most of it is what I own. My bear hunting is all done on Public Ground.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

mostly private here where I live owned by the family, but I do like to hunt on the wildlife refuge, but because of the before metioned gas prices i will stick to hunting aruond the house.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I mainly hunt where I think it is going to be the safest and least dorked up area. Private is not alwyas a garuntee ask Matt / pa. he has had some pretty crappy private land hunitng. I do most of my hunting on private grounds just because I feel much safer in the woods. Ariund here it isa total crap shoot on gameland, not impossible just really sometimes you do not know.

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I said equal, cause i am just really starting to get into deer hunting, and in ohio (where i am originaly from) i would hunt private land only most likely, but in florida down here it would probaly be public only, cause its too hard to find private land down here.

Rhody Hunter 04-30-2008 06:53 PM

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

I hunt both but mostly private

MichiganWhitetails74 04-30-2008 07:02 PM

RE: PUBLIC or PRIVATE ?

In 1992 -I took alot of whitetails on Public with bow...

NOW? Its a pumkin patch...I only run the bunnies on public now...its sad...

With a plot map and creativity....Large bucks can still be killed on Public land.....when you go where no man has gone before......you will find that weary whitetail....And then...you must RAGE him
