I just had never seen someone shoot a giraffe...
So...you come up with your perceptions of hunting a giraffe because you "had never seen it" before? What reasoning is there to NOT hunt them? They are indeed one of the hardest animals to get close to in Africa, as well as considered a "thick skinned" game, usually with minimum K.E. and/or other equipment restrictions.

I am in the middle of putting a trip together. If it goes thru, I will indeed be looking to kill a giraffe, and a Zebra is at the top of my wish list. Why? The Zebra has always been in my mind as a "someday" and can't explain it. The giraffe specifically for the challenge.

Will I care when folks show their objections based on ignorance? Nope.

Aimlow, if you think Im ignorant so be it, I may be, I just don't think shooting a giraffe is a great thing, didn't say I was right, just think it's not a great animal to shoot and I still think it's killing to kill.... are you gonna eat it? cool if ya do, I hope you have a great time there, my opinion is not going to change, neither should yours. I wasn't trying to get anyone to think like me, I just stated what i thought and also said that people would hammer for it, but Im "thicked skinned" it would probably take about 90 lbs of KE to penetrate me:D

What is fox hunting? Do people eat foxes? How about trapping beaver and muskrat? Opossums? Racoons? Besides, so what if it is killing to kill. If it is legal why is that wrong? There are plenty of people here in the USA that kill deer and give them to a food program. They don't eat them but someone does. Wouldn't that be killing just to kill? Why is that a problem?

every piece of the animal gets used by the locals. Portions of the days kills are brought back to the hunting lodge and are prepared for the hunters. Unfortunately none of the meat from any of the animals can be brought back to the US. My stepdad has gone to South Africa twice and has also shot a giraffe. At first ill admitt it did sound strage becasue we look at them as something other than a game species. He said that his giraffe was his most challenging hunt. They can see you coming fromalong way off and when they spot you and turn and run they can coveenormous distances. I didnt catch the tv show, but let me tell you they are tough to hunt.

I persionally dont understand my stepdad. I have never understood why someone would need to travel around the world to hunt when there are wonderful game species here in the states. He has never been on an elk hunt or mule deer hunt. Heck the trophy fees on the giraffe and the lion he shot was $10,000. Then the Taxidermist is charging another $10,000 for a shoulder mount of the giraffe and full body mount of the lion. For me I would rather put that $20,000 into hunting elk for years to come. But then to each his own

Iused "ignorant"strictly to mean "not knowledgable" and I am pretty sure you knew that.WhileI mayor may not eat the giraffeif Ikill one...someone will. Same goes for every edible animal you kill in Africa. It isn't like you goover there tocollect meat...youeat some while there and that is that. The trophyaspect of a giraffe (as other Africangame)is its hide.

I don't understand what you mean by "killing to kill". Do you mean no end useof the animal? Do you mean that there is no challenge in this particular animal?Iam truly curious towhat your opinion is based on?

I saw the show. I thought it was really cool that he was able to do that, not many people will ever get the chance. From other threads, I wondered if anyone would come on here and slam him.

I find it a little dis-heartening that so many fellow hunters can slam others just because its an animal they find no interest in.

Exactly. I have received plenty of crap for the 3 wolves I have killed. I just consider the source and let it go in one ear and out the other.

Some People Hunt for different Reasons. Where I hunt mostly just to be outdoors in the peace and quiet, others hunt for meat, some for trophies. This guy is obviously a trophy hunter. I am not saying it is right or wrong but I think this is just thrown a little out of proportion because its a such a big majestic animal. I mean the people that are boating down rivers shooting carp with their bows are just killing them for the "sport" of it.

Killing to kill means to simply go out and shoot something just to shoot it. Not to eat it, not help with population control, or because the animal is causing problems , example, wolves eating cattle, groundhogs eating beans.. etc. Shooting just to get ya kicks I guess you could say. Look, I knew people would get on me about and that's fine I can take it and I won't get angry i never do, you guys know me, I will say what I feel and take the criticism...just my opinion..
