RE: when shooting?
You should maybe "keep score" on both methods, and use the one in which you are most consistant, that way it ensures a better % of putting your arrow in the place it needs to be for a ethical harvest.

RE: when shooting?
I used to shoot left open for pistols, right open for long distance rifle comps. But i trained my self as well as other Law enforcement officers to shoot both eyes open. after I was used to both eyes open, I noticed my points on paper and shot groups got higher and tighter. I also have sniper friends, at shorter distances 100- 300 yards roughly, they use both eyes open. But when it came to long distance, over 300 yards their strong eye would take over as you try to squint or "TUNNEL" to see your Target. I hoped I helped your thread. For cops and military, it helps to have both eyes open to see your target better, Plus if you "TUNNEL", there might be a Bad Guy coming off the side that you wouldn't see if you only had one eye open. For hunting, you might "TUNNEL" on a Buck, if you had both eyes open you might see the Bigger buck coming in on his back Sides.

RE: when shooting?
I've been trying to get used to both eyes open. It is really different from what I'm used to, obviously.
I heard a good saying the other day. "Do you throw a football with one eye closed". Made sense in my world. |
RE: when shooting?
I started out shooting with just one eye open. After about six months, I decided to tryit withboth eyes open and I was astounded at the difference. I'm much more accurate with both eyes open. It seems to take special concentration to use the input from both eyes to some extent, but still rely primarily on the visual input from the aiming eye. Sounds kind of silly, but once I learned it, I've never looked back.
One thing I do that may be unusual though..... at30 yards or less (anything using my top pin) I draw and keep both eyes open constantly, from draw to release. At any greater yardage, I draw, close my left eye for an instant to make sure thepin is centered in the peep, then don't change anything about my form, open the other eye, settle and release. Both eyes open makes it so much easier for me to settle the pin... even out to 70 yards. |
RE: when shooting?
Basically, you need to try both double and single eye methods out like what SOLOCAMCAN said. Its like Bows or Pistol, rifle, etc. Its all personal preference. Do what makes you comfortable and drops those Big Bucks.
In my World, if you only have one eye open. someone usually slugs you on the other side where you can't see. |
RE: when shooting?
well it really dosent matter when i shoot my compound i shoot left eye closed but when i shoot my recurve i shoot both open
