they are fishers...larger and darker than a pine marten(which i dont think we have in PA?)...

maybe the squirrels are just easier for them to kill/find?? or maybe the squirrels relocated once the fishers moved in...i dont know...we still have porcies...but only squirrels that are left are red squirrels(pine squirrels)..forgot to mention that in the first post...the greys and blacks are gone...reds are still around...and if im looking i can find a porcie most days im out up there...

I've seen plenty of fishers in the north woods of MN,pine martins too.. Alot of people seem to confuse them, but its pretty easy to tell them apart.... Adult martinsare around 3-5 pounds, where as,adult Fishers are 13-15 pounds. Martins are usually lighter in color, and martins darker, but I've seen some variaion in their color.

They introduced fishers into Ontario to help get rid of porcupines, and they seem to have done their job. The only problem now is they are still around, and have taken a likeing to cats and small dogs.

Hi Jeff , it looks very similar if not the same as the Mink we get in UK .

Very destructive creature .

We have them in NH...
One year I was scouting a new place and I came across one sunning itself in a permanent tree stand and it was huge - for a fisher.
I had one cross my path on two other occasions, the last time I could feel something climbing my ladder stand,
I looks down and it climbed up 3 steps and then saw me and ran.
Now I know I'm ugly but I got a complex over this ordeal, it was pretty funny!

I have never seen a fisher in the wild but I once seen a wolverine near Antigo, Wi. The odds of me seeing one were pretty rare and this happened even though I have yet to see a bear. Go figure.

I saw a couple fishers playing/wrestlingon an old logging roadin the Allegheny National Forest a couple years ago. I really got to watch them for a long time, and even had my bino's on me. They were getting a little aggressive with each other, and did some neat vocalizations. Beautiful animals - toothy as all getout, and bigger than I'd expected. Both body sizesappeared to beclose in weightto a full-size groundhog, just ona more elongated frame.

For what it's worth, theydefinitely looked like they wouldn't be something you'd wanna tangle with.A rarity.
