Video Taping Hunts
 

I had an thought (and it hurt!) and wanted to see if anyone else has done it and what the results were. The thought was:

I purchased an Archos (kinda like an IPOD but better in my opinion) and then ordered the lipstick camera for it. I want to attach the lipstick camera to the counterweight on my bow so the video will be of the arrow leaving the bow and all the way to the target (hopefully a big ole monster buck).

Hasanyone else done this? If so, what issues did you have?

Though it sounds like a great idea, I believe it would be extremely tough to get any video by attaching a camera to the stabalizer. I know you're not looking for production quality, but even for home purposes I believe the camera would be moving too much, especially after the shot......you would have to concentrate too hard on the camera and could take away from making a clean shot.

I like the lipstick cam idea, but I think it might be better suited on the brim of your hat. Think about your shot sequence for a minute. When that deer is coming in, you are focused on it, but don't necessarily have your bow pointed at it. The time for the shot comes and you draw back which won't be the best or steadiest footage. You get on the deer for maybe a few seconds as you aim, then you release, again creating shakey footage. Then you get some footage of the ground/tree/sky as you hold your bow watching the deer run off. On the other hand, if it is on your hat your should be watching the deer the whole time and get some decent footage while still getting the entire shot sequence on film.

That's the way I would go with that camera.

Thanks Bry, makes sense. When the camera gets here, I'll give it a shot. I just thought it would be neat to have video of the arrow all the way from the bow to the target.

A good test would be to hook it up during a practice session. Just stick on there, hit record and shoot. Review the footage later and if it turns out good then you're in business. If it looks like the Blair Witch Project during an earthquake and you're nauseous after watching it you know to put it on your hat.;)
