If Fred Bear...

had used the Tred Barta statement "my way, the hard way, the Bear way", would people have been offended threatened by it?

Sorry, just could not help it. I gotta know.

RE: If Fred Bear...

The fact that he prolly would have gotten sued I'm betting someone would have been offended. Maybe not butalso Tred is WAY to full of himself and thinks he is some sort of "revolutionary" with what he does so I'm pretty sure he never wouldhave ever wanted to say that. Bear is still the manTred is not.... I'msure its coincidence but Tred Barta and Fred bear are very similar names so maybethats not treds real name, makes ya wonder, haha jk.WCL

The point is, I doubt people would still care about, or remember Fred Bear if he would have had that type Attitude.

So are you asking because you really care what we think? Or because you like to "hear" yourself post?

It must be one or the other, right? ;)

LT I always find it funny when people ask "What if" about another person. The reason your question is hard to answers is because of who Fred Bear was, and how he conducted his public life/image.

Fred did not care about his, hard or any way of hunting. Fred was a hunter, he hunted to hunt, some may think my last comment is simple, but it's not, IMO;)

And this my friend is what seperates hunters from Tred Barta's.

This statement should be posted in every hunting camp, pickup truck, and treestand, and ground blind, and bow in America. Grand Slam Germ. Grand Slam.

Germ you hit the nail on the head!!!! And besides Fred could back up what ever he said Tred couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from the inside. He sat on a show saying how he was so ethical and then sat out there shooting 50-70 yard shots at caribou just because he wasn't get any chances!! That must be the hard way!!

Good one germ, I "thought" I knew how Fred hunted, like I said I just finished his Field notes and was amazed by the way he hunted. He Hunted, like the others of his generation, Hill, Pearson, St Charles so many others. Just the remote ares they were hunting blows me away! I've got some more reading to do!

Well, Fred could have gotten away with it towards the end of his hunting career. But if he would have said it at the beginning, then Fred would cease to be Fred, the man, the legend. And hense we couldnt' have this conversation about it. Hense, meaning less. But I understand what your saying.

Tomcat, just a little advise. If you want 15 pages like Jeff, you have to make subject line very contraversal. "If Fred Bear", is way too bowhunting oriented.

BC he (FB) died 20 years ago. And my point was....during his formative years he did it (sans a firearm) the ONLY way (which was, also, the HARD way).

So ......NO...I wouldnt have a problem with it.;) He was a great hunter ....and from everything I've heard....a great man.

He was a great man, because he didn't act the fool like tred. I know he would have never been a great man going around proclaiming he is doing it the the hard way, the bear way.

You act like I think Tred is "cool" or something. I think he's a tool. I have no issues with your above statement....and care not to argue with anyone about it.

If it was theONLY way back then, then howcould it have been the HARD way? With no other (EASY) way to compare it to, there would not have been this concept of hard or easy.

interesting so whos Tred Barta?????:D
Readers Digest Version:

Tred Barta is the host of an outdoors hunting/fishing show here in the states called "The Best and the Worst of Tred Barta". A commercial jet salesman from New York by trade, Tred is an accomplished offshore fisherman, specifically in the realm of Big Eye tuna. He also has a flare for traditional (longbow) hunting, and holds a world record warthog in his respective discipline. Thats the background...

Tred believes in doing things "the hard way.. the Barta way.." to quote him. That means when he goes goose hunting, rather than use a shotgun like any standard hunter would, he chooses to use a longbow and flu-flu arrows. Instead of backing the boat up and hauling up tuna like a lot of commercial charters do, Tred uses 20# line and fights them standing up.... and it can (and does) take hours to land a single fish that could, with heavier equipment and standard boat maneuvers be gaffed in under 45 minutes. He is the subject of much talk and controversey in part because of his attitude, and in part because of his practices and results. He is certainly not your average show host.

He is outspoken with his opinions, and boysterous with his accomplishments. He tends to preach a good doctrine, but most see him as just another sinner. But I'm getting a bit subjective here so I'll just leave it with that.
