DEER'S EYE SIGHT
http://www.hunting.net/articles/article_detail.aspx?articles_id=579
WHY DO WE SPEND BIG MONEY ON CAMO, WHEN WE COULD WEAR RED CLOTHING, AND IF HUNTERS DID, WOULD IT BE MORE EFFECTIVE. SHOULD HUNTERS USE RED LIGHTS WALKING TO THERE STANDS....JUST WANTING SOME THOUGHTS. BECAUSE ARE WE WEARING CAMO TO HIDE FROM OTHER HUNTERS.....I COULD IMAGE A FEW GUYS FROM THIS SITE WEARING RED JUMP SUITS NEXT HUNTING SEASON...I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME FIELD TESTS DONE....SEEING GUYS IN ALL RED WOULD REALLY MAKE ME LAUGH. |

ORIGINAL: WVSPORTSMAN http://www.hunting.net/articles/article_detail.aspx?articles_id=579 COULD WEAR RED CLOTHING I think you can wear almost any color as long as there is a pattern to break up your outline. Look how effective ASAT is as only a duo-color camo pattern. |
RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
Just buy camo that isn't made in China.
"Since then the textile industry has moved to China. Today nearly all camo is made in China and they commonly add permanent UV-Brightening dyes to all base cloth" |
RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
ive been talking about red camo for years....but green sounds better than red, since that article says they cant see red or green, or maybe some red/green camo.
the uv brightners raised my brow though, thought uv wash cleaned /fixed that problem, guess not, now I need a blacklight/flashlight? and I thought those UV no flash cameras......deer can see the UV....is the no flash UV? oh well I guess, which is worse a light flash, or a no flash? guess then only deer can see the flash.....not humans. now what about elk? moose? caribou? bear? |
RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
If I told the average, avid hunter......he could kill more and bigger deer if he'd wear pink/yellow camo.
He'd refuse.;) |

RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
IS THERE A GOOD TEST TO SEE IF YOUR CAMO HAS UV MATERIALS IN THEM?
|
RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
Blacklight. I know this because I used to work security in nightclubs and you could see where people would dump their detergent right onto clothes by the large glowing spot and then smaller drops on the clothes when they were under blacklighted conditions. I have used a blacklight before to make sure and my camo was fine, even the crappy chinese made stuff;)

RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
I actually have red based camo -dont laugh!- and have been using it off and on for years. I beleive it is old swiss army surplus BDUs. I wouldnt claim that it works better than anything else I have tried though, even when on the ground...I sit still and break up my outline a bit if I are silouetted, the deer dont see me regardless.

RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
I love to buy camo on the sale rack this time of year at 50% off. I have gotten stuff that I've never seen before and paid less than 50 bucks for pants and jacket and killed deer wearing it. As many have said it is the break up of your sillouette that works.
I have also tried scent killers and scenlock suits with my dads Bllodhound and found few combos that masked me from Clem.[:-] |
RE: DEER'S EYE SIGHT
I'm like you raceway, I am the clearance camo guy and I will keep it til it is too ragged to use. If I had to buy full price camo I wouldn't have much if any. I have killed lots of deer after work in a flannel shirt and jeans(I do always wear a hat and use branches or natural cover to break up my outline). I am convinced scent and movement will give you away far quicker than your camo.
