What do they do???
I teach with a lot of guys that don't really have a passion for much of anything in the outdoors. I mean during deer season or turkey or whatever, they are not out doing what Im doing. I wonder often about what they do. I mean this is how I express myself, relieve stress, spend time with GOD, think about my kids and wife, happy thoughts, I crave this stuff. I have to do it, or I will go nuts. I ask these guys about it, they don't even know what Im asking. Most, if not all of them have never hunted and don't want to. They say they read and go grocery shopping on Saturdays or watch football or something else on TV. They have no clue the adventures we have on the weekends and weekday afternoons. How can someone go through life without doing this or having a desire to do it, I willl never get it I guess.

And the scary part is the influence they have on todays kids.[:@]

RE: What do they do???
It's funny you brought his up, as I often find myself wondering this when I see or talk to non-hunters. It's become such a part of my life, that I wouldn't be living if I wasn't doing it. It's similar to how confused I get when trying to figure out women.

VA....this was in my first year of bowhunting.....and it's still true (if you get a minute). I laugh at it now....but it's still my best day afield, ever....in any kind of hunting. I think it's sad that many, many people will never get to experience this type of day. |

RE: What do they do???
I too know people that are like that, they spend all their time figuring the stats on football teams or golf. I suppose it is just different strokes for different folks. I mean I like a good football game but i would rather be hunting thanksgiving weekend than watching a game...LOL
This is what makes the world go roundI suppose. They have different stress releavers than we do, I wouldn't trade my hunting time with family and friends for anything asI am sure most on here feel the same way, why else would we be doing this when we are supposed to be working...LOL |

You are (markone):
Predator__X__ Prey____ Other____ jk;) Sort of. |
RE: What do they do???
I often wonder the same thing, but from a different perspective. I am 18 and I have very few friends who hunt, and zero "close" friends. And I often wonder how they spend their Thanksgiving break, what they do on those beautiful October Saturday mornings (probably recover from Friday night knowing my friends). I couldnt imagine not spending my fall in in the woods.

RE: What do they do???
wel,l some of the teachers are just clueless as to what it is that stirs me inside, others, well, they look at my chevy 1500 Silverado with Muzzy stickers, PSE stickers, Bowhunting Life at Full Draw decal, and the mud and the dried blood that I can't remove and just shake their heads. Nobody really says anything mean to me or out of the way, they just can't understand how I got an education and became a professional like them, yet Im so laid back and country. To them it's oil and water. My kids love me at school, some my students that hunt just simply want to hang out at my desk and look the pics of my deer. I really enjoy sharing with those kids. If you walk into the teacher lounge and look at my cubby, it is covered with pics of me and my deer. Some just walk right by and never even look, others walk by stop and ask if they are all dead.:D

RE: What do they do???
i dont wanna know what id be doing if i wasnt an outdoorsman period. like i tell mom every time i head to the farm to coon hunt and she gives me crap about it...i just tell her i can be out coon hunting every friday and saturday nite or i could be out at the bar...she says "oh...ya...go hunt!" (mom still sees me as her baby boy even though im 21...)
it too is my way of dealing with life...i know if i dont get out hunting or fishing or in the woods or shooting for a couple weeks i feel weird... like right now...i got piles of work that needs done and its beautiful out and i wish i could be fishin...driving me nuts...time to head to the library................:( |

I think we should be careful not to look down on the people that have different interests than us ...... when we do that, we sound like those that do that to us, and bring ourselves down to their level...
Different strokes for different folks ....... |

Different strokes for different folks ....... I agree Tony, different strokes for different folks! I try my hardest not to judge people by there interests in life or even how they live it, someone else is the judge!:) |
RE: What do they do???
Some people just can't go out in the country/woods and have a relaxing time or enjoy the peace and serenity of the wilderness! This past weekend me and my 2 Daughters packed a picnic lunch and went out in the woods and set up the Turkey Blind, then they went down to the creek and played for a while and then we had Deer Jerky, olives, potato salad, crackers & cheese and home made salsa and chips!Hopefully my girls will remember our outings in the woods and pass that onto their children too! :D;)

RE: What do they do???
I teach at a small school and it is amazing at what the kids plan for Friday and Saturday nights. I just wanted to get to bed so I could get up early and hunt or fish all day long. I am lucky that several of the teachers at my school do enjoy hunting. I have 1 co worker in particular that will find me every morning to find out if I saw any deer or turkeys on my way to work. I know hunting and fishing kept me out of trouble in hs and college. I have a 5 yr old son and I am trying to instill that same passion into him. We practiced shooting his youth 410 tonight at turkey targets.

RE: What do they do???
Tony, I was in no way trying imply that my interest are better than someone else's, I just do not know what I would do if I didn't live outdoors. I would never put down someone's hobbies even if they aren't the same as mine. But these guys have no hobbies really, they don't do much in my opinion that is exciting, but again, that's my opinion, I do have to defend my hobbies to them however. They make fun of me daily, Im thick skinned and I take in stride, so it's not really an issue, I kind of have fun explaining what I do to them and then they look at me like Im nuts!!! it's really all in good fun. Sorry if the post seemed I was downing them!

RE: What do they do???
The only thing i can come up with for an answer is that if you have never been introduced to something it is hard to see what you are missing.
I mean I feel the same about the whole thing as you but at the same timeI come up with this solution....The kids are the future and if we teach them to hunt or even just get outdoors and appreciate what the good Lord a has given us we will have done all we can do. Even if you introduce an adult to the outdoors they to can change, it is just harder after they have life's routiens going on. The bottom line is some will not like the outdoors or hunting but atleast they can appreciate our perspective as for the others they will soon be doing what we are doing and doing it in only the way we Americans can do it. |

It's much easier to convince an undecided to become an anti through your actions. Learn to work within that world. |
