Nope, I don't bait. I think here is VA you can bait up until September or so but definitely not during the seasons. I don't need to bait to kill an animal and thats not a bash to anyone who decides to do so.
I think you are right, without the book in front of me I think its legal to bait from the Sunday after the season goes out until the first saturday in September.

To answer the question: I did once- for my first bow it was still a tough hunt for me regardless. No I dont anymore. If it was legal in Virginia, I still wouldnt do it.

Bruce....Interesting discussion......but I'd ask if the HUNTER'S "intent" had any influence on your definitions? Why is HE hunting the ag crops?

Jeff, define a situation in which a deer IS NOT baited under your scrutiny.
Under the strictest definiton of "baiting", (IMO), Bob.......I'm not sure there is one. I'm OK with that.

I don't think that the"definition" is what we're searching for,I think its more along the line of "grasping for straws".[]

I would rather floss my neighbors cats teeth, than hunt over bait.
What about for bear?

Jeff, define a situation in which a deer IS NOT baited under your scrutiny.

Perhaps the only thing that comes to mind is an unweened fawn?
Gr8 that doesn't work either, because you can bait the doe that the fawn is feeding from thereby baiting that fawn as well.

Baiting isn't legal in most of the state, but is where I hunt.

Yes, I hunt baited deer.

No discussion required on the legality/morality of the practice.

Is it legal in your state to do it.......and do you?

Yes. It's legal in my state.

No. I don't do it.

Its illgal in my state but i still bait via scents, callsand hunting over small feilds where the deer eat.

Personally, if I ever get the chance, I won't hunt the ag crops but I will hunt the trails that lead to them . Same reason I hunt the trails that lead to oak ridges or a staging area, etc. Because that is where the deer are/will be. But, just because that is where they are/will be still doesn't make the ag/oak/rub tree bait. It just makes it where they will be.

What is the purpose of bait?

What is the purpose of ag crops?
