(QUIZ) Your weekly bow kill quiz from Michigan

HA....interesting twist guys...lets QUIZ each other on a topic we all may think we know our stuff on...we may be able to have some good learning on something like this...

Here we go:

A big doe comes in broadside and you make full draw with no issues...mamma is still relaxed....you release your arrow and you're not quite sure where you hit her..

She bounds off ... like she is not hit...at 40 yards she is hunched up and her tail is laying flat tight between her legs.....she slowely walks off with her ears back hunched up and tail low...

Where did you hit this deer?

I'm thinkin the guts......Deer will often hunch up like that, and walk off slowly, after a gut hit. Let 'er go AT LEAST 8 hours, and don't push her. Hopefully she'll die where she beds...

The way you describe it ..... sounds like a paunch shot to me , she might be down and expired within four to six hours

Don't shoot hers (not that there is anything wrong with that). Never had a gut shot, but I am saying all post are correct. Check the arrow for slick, green or an fowl odor. If it still appears a gut shot, wait at least 6 hours before attempting to retrive an hope for the best.

You got it Shultzy!! I am not one to argue topics but I would put up a small fight on this one...Unfortunetly over the years I've been with... or seen it under my own hand....time and time again.....this type of deer behavior is a fact.

Guys! --The double lung is the "COLT 45" methodology!! Its a slam bam whack splash just out of plane view and the woods becomes silent....

So, would you shoot her again or let her suffer for another 4 to 6 hours? Did you ever have to use that 44 Mag?

MichiganWhitetails74 04-05-2008 04:37 PM

RE: (QUIZ) Your weekly bow kill quiz from Michigan

I would never let an animal suffer if it was in my control.

I've taken2 with my 44 mag while gun hunting.

Me neither, I guess if it came down to it and I shot it with my last arrow then I would have to pull out the old buck knife. Or get a friend to put the second arrow in it.

Swift - I agree....None of us plan for a bad situtation to arrive...but the probability of it happening is a fact of life for us....We break arrows... and robin hood.... and we post our success on the forum... but bad situtations happen in the woods......it may be 1 in 100....1 in 10....or 1 in 1000...but they happen...

We just need to learn body language and react to it....if you're not sure...go have breakfast or sleep it off and head out the next day....and give it all you got.....

I have a Dan Wesson....My Dan is crazy accurate and I feel affraid to even discuss the success this gun has out to 100 yards because some may not believe it...

My Dan Wesson will kill with iron sights out to 100 yards with a firm rest...I'm not a talker guys...I'm tellin ya though...this gun will do it..and so will Smith, Ruger & all of the other boys...

Note: The difference between a miss and a kill at 100 yards with a pistol ....is.....

A slow squeeze.......or a jerk.....The first method works...

I Agree!!:D

Most lost deer are because of bad choices made by the Hunter. You need to know where you hit and what to do accordingly. If in doubt presume the worst if you did not see the deer fall.
