Anybody shoot left helical feathers or vanes?
Is there any difference between left and right helical fletching for a right hand shooter? Also, for you that do shoot left, do you ever have trouble with field tips or broadheads coming loose?

RE: Anybody shoot left helical feathers or vanes?
Loose points are the only problem I have.....I use a feather as a 3rd anchor point and LW is the only way it works. I haven' t found that the loose points are that big a deal.....I' ve never had a problem with BH at all if that is your concern.

RE: Anybody shoot left helical feathers or vanes?
I use left wing with 5" feathers. Works well for me and in 40 years, never really considered the point thing a problem. I' d imagine right wing would work just as well but that' s not what my fletcher is set up to do.

Heck, all I use is left helical for years now. That is, unless I am using right helical. Yes, I use both and there is no difference. NONE, get that? All I shoot is feathers, 2" for 3D and 4" for hunting.
To help with keeping those points tight just put a little bowstring wax on the threads and tighten them down. You can use the old bees wax if ya got it, cause it ain' t the right stuff for synthetic strings anyway. For that you want ML6. |
RE: Anybody shoot left helical feathers or vanes?
It really doesn' t matter what kind of helical you use, right or left, it shouldn' t change your point of impact. The only thing is left helical will loosen your heads on contact. No big problem though. Here is a little secret for ya. I shoot left helical shield cut feathers and what I do is apply a little bowstring wax to the threads of my field points or broadheads and that is enough to keep them from working loose. You wouldn' t believe how well that works. Give it a try oops I just saw the post above me I guess BGfisher beat me to the punch.

Right versus left helical makes no difference. Just make sure you use left helical clamps for left wing feathers, and right for right.

I use left helical and am right handed. I think that it tightens the points, not the other way around. I have never had a tip come loose on me and I just finger tighten them in.
