Treestand Angles
 

The thread "FAST??" got me thinking. I just got a new bow (crossbow) this past winter and had previously been shooting 270 fps. My new bow shoots roughly 320. I know that faster speed equals flatter arrow trajectory. So how does this play into shooting out of a tree stand. With my old bow it took me awhile to understand how to shoot while considering angles (simple concept yes, but I had a slow learning curve). I sight in my bow on the ground cause I do the majority of my crossbowing from the ground, so once I got into the treestand I wuold just aim a couple inches low, no biggie. Anyway, point is, with the faster speed, will I have to aim AS low or same or whats the deal. No worries, I'm going to practice, practice, practice to find out. But I just wanted to hear what you guys thought.

Shoot for the flat distances. Try taking your yardage readings at ground level from the base of your tree. That way, once in the stand you do not have to make any adjustments.

I sight my bow in around Aug. 1, while shooting off the top of my building. It's at this time I switch to BH's exclusively. I think I'd have doubts in my head if I sighted my bow in from the ground and then expected them to be dead-on from a treestand.

May not make any difference, but I sight mine in from treestand height as well. One less thing to think about.

I found out if I bend at the waist while shooting from a tree stand then the arrows will not drop nearly as bad. small enough I could still shoot squirrels out of the tree stand.:)

My truth shoots at 315 fps IBO. my hunting set up shoots at about 250 fps. 400 spine 29" easton axis carbon arrows 28 1/2" draw 100 grain heads.

I could be wrong.....but wouldn't NOT doing this make you shoot HIGH?

I sight my bow in for 20 on the ground. I craewl up a tree and it is on from 0-30 yds. Then again I shoot a pendulum sight:D.

I HAVE to shoot from a treestand for a couple of months at least prior to the season......it makes a difference especially when the angle of the shot is very sharp. Shooting is a mental game for me and confidence born from tested shots is what I am all about when the moment of truth arrives for me.

Huntingson- Correct me if I am wrong, but If I take my yardage readings from the base of the tree then that will eliminate all the guess work? ARe you saying that 20 yards from the base of the tree would read 23 from the treestand? Just tryin to clarify a little bit. Thanks for the advice.

I use a Keller pendulum sight and never have to worry about yardage estimates at all! Np pacing off - nothing!
