17 yard trad groups, bring on the turkeys!
Jeff's post got me fired up and I decided to take a few pics of todays shooting! I'm ready for the turkeys with my Longbow! I'm shooting about 48.5# at 27.5"DL with a total arrow weight of about 585grains. They are hitting pretty hard with the 200gr - 2 blade Magnus II's. Talk about watching a beautiful arrow fly thru the air and hit your mark! Priceless! All in all I still have some work to do, but I have 2 weeks until the opener if I'm not feeling it I take my fathers remington 1100 and hopefully kill a bird, this was the last gun he killed a bird with just weeks before he passed away! Just thought I'd share a good days shootin with ya'll!
My first 4 arrows of the day elevated at about 17ft and a distance of 17 yards! ![]() Last 10 arrows, I hate shooting this many arrows but I can't help myself, I got a little tired at the end! ![]() |

RE: 17 yards groups, bring on the turkeys!
Boys, I promise ya, get away from shooting groups, and your shooting will improve like you won't believe. It helped me considerably. I shoot one at a time now, and never from the same yardage or spots. And try to not shoot at known yardages.

RE: 17 yards groups, bring on the turkeys!
Big, I'm trying not to shoot groups so to speak. I'm shooting for different spots on the target. Old arrow holes, the liver, the heart. I can move the target from 11 - 18 yards and move it around every time I retrieve my arrows to not get in a rut! On the other side of the block I try and shoot for the letters that spell "Block". When I go to the park I walk around and just shoot at different distances and like you said it does wonders for me! I have yet to be able to walk thru the woods and go stumping, will do when all this snow melts in the woods! I try to shoot in a hunting type scenario as much as possible, elevated, backed up to a tree, around a tree everything to keep me ffrom getting in to a bad habit rut! Thanks for advice it does work for me!

Nice, way to stack em up old school style. Good luck on laying the smackdown on a longbeard. That is an ultimate challenge.
