My guy Mel, may charge a bit more, but his quality and turn around time is top notch... 2.5 months when I pay in full upfront.. I've waited no longer than 6 months when I paid a few of them off on payments...

The fastest was 7 mo. the slowest was 9 mo. If your taxi. has over 1 year wait I wouldn't go there. If he isn't turning his work in 1 year he must be falling behind.

Typical wait on my taxi is about a year and a half. I'm sure if I squeezed him I could get it done quicker, but he's a good guy and works as quick as he can. Plus he does a wonderful job, so I'm willing to wait. No need to press him, once I get it back I've got the rest of my life to stare at it on the wall.

I've waited 9 months for one and about 3 on the other.

My guy has won a few national titles.....and only takes in a certain number of mounts/year.

I think the wait can have a lot to do with a taxi's work load as well as how much help he's got. I think waiting a year isn't out of the norm. A good taxi with a good reputation who does great work is in demand, and worth the wait. JMO

I had to wait about 11 months for mine. I dont think I could wait for any longer than a year.

It's always interesting to read these type of posts, being in the other shoes. The year before last - 3-4 month turnaround. Last year - 9 month turnaround with mother having a liver transplant. This year - busiest ever and running 4-6 months with a signifigant (sp?) price increase. I am covered up with more still coming but my tannery guy is a good friend and pushes my stuff through. GMMAT has a great taxidermist, whom I know and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
Something to take in mind, some guys take in over 100 deer/ season. So for up to 4 months they can't do anything but skin and salt and listen to guys stories. Then off to the tannery, which will take around 3 months. Then the actual mounting 6 hours/ deer, 3-4 hrs is usual but hey I'm slow. Then at least 2 weeks to dry and then finishing which can take 3 hours or more. Now that doesn't include the yotes, foxes, bears, elk, fish, birds, turkey, etc. Now all of a sudden a year is pretty good.
Myself, I work a full time job, plus having to cook dinner and help with homework. My wife works for an accountant and tax time is busy time. Then I head to the shop for 3-5 hrs of creating art, or at least the attempt to. I don't mount fish or birds. But with moose & deer coming from Canada and hogs, javalina and such from Texas and who knows what else from wherever, my turnaround is pretty good. The I have to find time to make it to my photographer to have pics taken for my website, which I usually forget in the rush of trying to get things back to everyone.
Hopefully it gives someone some food for thought. Yes it''s 10:20pm and I just got back up here, early night - woohoo!
