RE: What would it take to make you kill a doe fawn?
OK...GAME ON then. A yearling is a 1.5 yr old deer. One line says you give yearlings a pass, the next says you smoke them all day long. |

It is with a great deal of soul searchingthat I have decided to refrain from eating Veal Picatta or Veal Oscar or braised shanks. Fried young chicken is off the menu and rolled boneless leg of lamb is now a No No.

RE: What would it take to make you kill a doe fawn?
Icall2much, while I understand that you want a challenge in the game you hunt, the rest of usare not as choosey when it comes to meat. Many of us hunt for meat and for the challenge of deer hunting in general. Let's not get an"above the rest of attitude" about deer hunting or a "holier than thou" attitude. If you don't want to shoot em don't, but don'tsay that it is not a challenge or it is not an accomplishment for someone to kill a fawn, that is belittling and arrogant. Im not calling you arrogant, Im saying the statement is. You say you want to kill an animal with as much experience and savvy as you??? Well sir, that would be every deer in the woods for the most part, they are in the business of survival, a fight for their lives every single day, when is the last time you ducked an arrow or walked by a guy with a weapon inhis hand waiting to kill you??? I believe we are greater than an animal, but they are better at this than we are, even a fawn....:D

RE: What would it take to make you kill a doe fawn?
Yall probably wont be interested to hear this but in Scotland our deer herd's (red deer) are managed with such scrutiny and accuracy by local gamekeepers that it is illegal to kill fawns here, its considered unethical as a young deer should be allowed a chance at life at least. Its immoral to kill one and people would probably give you looks for it.
Im suprised it is allowed in America, indeed. I personally would never kill a fawn its wrong in my opinion but who am I to judge. Game keepers maintain the herd so that there are hardly any weak stags so it is strong. Just thought i'd share some of our ways incase you guys were interested in hearing. On the other hand with Roe deer you can kill any kind you want except fawns. |

Good points though, deer hunting varies from place to place, that is a fact. Fawns get a pass in MY book.:D Good discussion fellas! |
RE: What would it take to make you kill a doe fawn?
If the game comission thought it was unethical to kill a fawn here in the states, then you bet your -ss they would make it illegal to shoot one.

If the fawn is hurt to point it will die a slow painful death then I will take it out, other then that the fawn and all antlerless deer get a free pass from me

RE: What would it take to make you kill a doe fawn?
Well that is obviously true but it must not be considered unethical to them. Rules and regulations vary from country to country, state to state and i know that its always been like that here, people dont like it and consider it wrong and i can see why.
I know quite a bit out hunting regulations over there because my boyfriends dad has a 280 acre ranch in rural MS and i do respect what they do there and do not condemn just because of differences. I don't know, I mean I just can't fathom why someone would kill a baby deer. I guess we're a different kind of people here. |
