I was so oblivious when I lived in Montana (There aint much that can kill you in PA but the Mt. Lions;))

I lived in the Tom Miner basin which I later found out had the highest Grizzly bear density of any location in the lower 48 not in a National park. Where I lived actually brodered the NW corner of Yellowstone.

I would hike the nearby Tom Miner creek in shorts fishing for Cuttthroats in the spring by myself LOL
Found out a few years later the guy who lived across the road from us was mauled severely by a Griz on the same piece of property. [:-]
It was just me and a 3wt flyrod. LOL

I like the sound of the big industrial sized pepper sprays but would still like the option of a big bang if I needed it. Not fun carrying a large caliber handgun around everywhere but it's not fun being dead either I guess.;)

How close do they have to be for the spray to work?

Honest question. 'Cause if it's less than 50 yds........I'll take the gun;)

This guy doesn't understand why you'd need apeashooter or a can of hairspray to repel a bear. If a bear gets persnickity with you, you simply kick it's ass and go home.

Maybe you'd be better off spraying the whole can on yourself and hope the bear doesn't like spicy food? :eek:

That'a 8 yards to you and me! I don't think so! If ananimal that can eat me starts moving toward me and it knows I am there and it doesn't have the innocent look of a curious animal it is getting shot.None of this debating with the Game Warden about whetherit was really threatening or not.I am throwing some lead until I am comfy.Bluff charge my a$$,bang!and more bangs if necessary!

Yeah...can you just imagine seeing a big nasty jaw popping Grizzly charging at you (like in this video) from a distance and all you have is a can of spray. I'm willing to bet that dude would be second guessing "Plan A" while he's waiting for the bear to get close enough to spray it.[&:]

There's a big difference in what were talking about here. If were talking grizzly's or brown bear I'd be packing a gun more then likely. If were talking black bear, never would I take a gun or pepper spray. Big difference between the 2 even though there's more black bear attacks then grizzly attacks. Thats mainly because there's a ton more black bear around then grizzly though.
