Wounded Deer

I was on my way to church on Easter Sunday morning and I saw something really sad. There was a farm on the right side of the road and I am sure you guys have seen the white plastic that holds in hay that farmers put it. Well a deer was coming across the road from eating the hay and I stopped cause he was the crossing the road.

I noticed he had only 3 legs. One of his front legs was completely gone. I mean there wasn't even a little stub there or anything. He hobbled across the road real slow. It was so sad to see but I guess he survived the winter like that and hopefully can make it.

It just was really sad to see that and it kinda made me want to go put the deer out of it's misery. I know they can survive on three legs but it was just hard to see and it kinda made me think for a while about how tough they really are. I sure hope he does survive.

I shot one last year that had a broken leg. Upon close examination.....when I touched it I was touching raw bone. No regrets.

If I saw one like you did.....I think (after reading a LOT of stuff in here an other places)....I'd be inclined to let HIM pass. Doe??? She's getting my arrow. (for the record....I need to thin ALL does)

I agree with you Jeff but it was just hard to see him hobbling across the road like that. Made me really sad to think he was suffering.

It is tough seeing that, no dought. Its really amazing though how tough these deer really are. Specially in your location where I'm sure you have had allot snow being your living in Wisconsin. There an amazing animal and I think if we had half there will to live and survive we would all be better off!

Yeah finally starting to melt a little bit now where the deer can actaully eat in the fields where the sun hit the snow and melted it. You still got lots of snow in Minn or is it slowing melting?

We got about 8 inches in the woods yet but the snow out in the fields is slowly disappearing finally! Been a long winter this year!!

Yeah I am sick of seeing the white stuff. I have been walleye fishing this spring alot and usually I am standing on rocks and bare ground. This year it has been snow the whole time.

My buddy had a three legged doe on his property finally died of old age. He wouldn't shoot it, first time it went by on three legs he figured if she was tough enough to make it through the last season and summer with three legs he wasn't going to kill her. Had twins every year.

i wouldn't worry about it too much, this guy has been walking around on three for two years now. deer are extremely tough, that's for sure. i've even seen this guy pushing other bucks around, i've got a lot of respect for "stumpy".
