Those idiots on mythbusters...
They are trying to prove whether it is possible to robin hood an arrow. They first tried doing it themselves and then with the help of " professional archers." Finally they built a machine (kinda like a hooter shooter) attempting to prove the robin hood myth.
They should have just called me if they wanted a robin hood. Well, at least before my current bout of target panic.:([8D] |
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
All they have to do is come here and ask people to post picks of their robin hoods!! LOL

They were trying it with WOODEN arrows, were they not?;) NOT,hollow shafts.
Atleast the last time this came up,that was what they were trying. |
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
Wood might be diff. Any one on here ever do it with wood?

RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
Hate to pop the bubble and forgive me if I am mistaken but I am almost 100% sure they were trying to prove weather or not an arrow with a broadhead could robin hood an arrowand arrow and split it all the way down. They never said it was impossible to get a robin hood that would be stupid because look at all the folks here who have done it With Field tips not broadheads. But lets see someone prove the myth busters wrong and split a shaft from nock to tip with a broadhead then I will call the myth busters idiots.

RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
ok now I need to know. Did they do it? It's not fair to post this and leave me hanging. How am I supposed to sleep tonight not knowing?
|
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
They said they were tying to do on purpose. how many of you have hit the ol Robin Hood on purpose? I have only done it a couple of time and I tell you I was NOT trying to split 10$ worth of arrow when I did it.

RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
I saw the episode but dont remember it much. But it would be impossible to robin hood a wooden arrow with a broadhead because of the spin, you would think so at least [&:]
|
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
The reason they were using wood arrows instead of aluminum or carbon is because they were attempting to authenticate a true "robin hood" with period specific materials that were available when Robin Hood would have been alive. Robin Hood would have been using wood arrows and a long bow so that is what they were trying to duplicate.
No they did not succeed in splitting a wooden shaft with another wooden shaft. The arrows started to split the nockend but quickly followed the grain of the wood and veered off center of the shaft. I say it is possible but everything would have to be perfect. One of those one-in-a-million things. The grain of the first shaft would have to run perfectly straight down the shaft and then the second arrows broadhead would have to enter the first shaft with the broadhead lined up perfectly with the grain of the first shaft in order to stay on track while splitting it. |
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
They did finally get it with a bamboo shaft.
|
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
From what I haveread in Traditional Bowhunting Magazine, Byron Ferguson is going to attempt to prove them wrong. With his longbow and POC's.
|
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
Of course its possible, most people do it atleast once in there life if not more.

RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
But with wooden shafts? Not possible IMO
|
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
the myth was actually to see if an arrow can splint the other arrow completly down the shaft !!! not just to robin hood like we call it
|
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
a robbin hood. pleez.. its called a waste of $10, i did 2 in 2 weeks. freaggin piss me off
from now on i will not shoot more than 2 arrows per target, i will use those 3 target targets with the 3 circles. this way the chances of that happeneing again are very slim, even though the second time i pulled a "robbin hood" it was with only one arrow shot previously. anyway mythbusters rocks! |
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
ORIGINAL: hoyt_user the myth was actually to see if an arrow can splint the other arrow completly down the shaft !!! not just to robin hood like we call it What we refer to a Robin Hood arrow is one hollow shaft splitting another hollow shaft . Once the 2nd shaft enters the 1st it follows the hollow tubing or the path of least resistance . I had my 1st Robin Hood last summer at 20 yards . In the past two months , I have had 2 more shooting from 11 yards in the basement . ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
Number one, a true robin hood is with wood shafts, just modern archers morphed it into hollow shafts. I think everyone of us here could post apict of one hollow shaft going into anotherif you have been shooting more than a year or two.. But not sure any of us could post a "robin hood" of a wood shaft being split from nock to point.

RE: Those idiots on mythbusters...
Even with the straightest grain arrows , it didn't happen . Just wondering if you discredit Howard Hill making the shot in Robinhood? Acrording to him, this was not his most difficult shot. |
