help with a bow

Hey all, i've been doing some research and came up some bows that I am interested in and i want to narrow it down.I have a price range of $500 and want my bow all set up ready to hunt. I am also left handed, small female with not alot of strength. Im looking for a good bow that will last me a long time. One that will be quiet and light, and easy to use.

The best out of this list really.

Parker contender XP

Hoyt Kobalt

Hoyt Trykon sport/Jr

Bear lights out

Bowtech equalizer

Diamond Edge

Pearson spoiler angle

Even If its worth me paying a tad more for a good bow i would do it. I would like to know the good bows, a list of the good ones that you guys would recommend for a lass like me. :D

RE: help with a bow

I would suggest the reflex growler as you can buy the package deal (sight, quiver, rest)for $550 and it is made by hoyt. http://www.reflexbow.com/

Above all, go out and shoot all the bows you can and see what shoots the best for you.

RE: help with a bow

Are reflex the best you can get for my budget? How much do they come in at?

I cannot try bows out here because there are no bow shops in my country.[&:]:(

I have been looking around for one here in Scotland but I cannot find any, unless you know of some?

:(

If I could I would try them out but I hate the whole situation. I really do like the look of the reflex growler though.

Is this good?

They set it up for you too. I dont have a clue about setting up bows or anything and neither does anyone i know.

Actually looking at that package that is a pretty good deal. You are getting a case, arrows, release, sight, quiver, practice and hunting tips.
Also, if you do get this package get the whisker biscuit because it is really user friendly. I sent you a pm too.

I'm not sure if it will fall in your budget, but there is No better short draw bow than the Bowtech Equalizer.

I really do like the look of that reflex growler.:D

Funny.

I'm sure your aware your money spent here is a pretty good deal.

What's wrong with the Merlin and it does look like a hoyt. I also like their camo pattern. The new hoyts are not light weight.

Bows do have problems and you will be responsible for the shipping charges if they need returned.

You have some interesting opinions, Commander.:DHey, I'm a hunter, scouting is just life.:DWhat's tht Indiana boy think's best?

Are you in the states now? If so I think you should look at the Dartons.

RE: help with a bow

I see someone mentioned Merlin. I was going to ask if you have looked into bows from your side of the pond. Merlins are AWESOME bows if they fall in your price range. They are a bit pricey and hard to get over here though. They use some technology from Hoyt and Darton. And the craftsmanship on them is top notch. The ones I have seen are closer to works of art than your typical production bow you would get from here. I am sure there are other archery companies around there as well. From what I understand archery is pretty popular in Europe.

That being said the bowtech Equalizer is hard to beat for a small archer. The reflex line is a pretty good bargains too. And some of the Parker packages are great as far as price goes.

The problem you are going to have is service and support with not having a shop in your area. It would be great if you could find someplace local, or someone that could help you out. We can help you out here, but you will really need first hand experience for set up and help with proper form.

As much as I hate to say this, I think you should look for a forum with more people from your area. They might be able to give you some insight to what might be around you.

I honestly feel you would be better off driving 2 or 3 hours to a shop than ordering one off from the internet.

I think archery talk has some members from overseas. We have a few actually, you just don't see them that much.

Where exactly are you from? Maybe some of us can help you search.

And the sad thing is 500 US dollars for a completely set up bow is getting pretty hard to pull off now a days. Especially when you consider you live in another country. On the upside there really are not that many "bad" bows out right now. They will all function just fine and should last quite a long time if you take care of them. And even the really cheap ones are better than what the top of line bows were 10 or 15 years ago.

My opinions anyway.

Paul

What about the trykon sport/jn?

Could I get that as a package?

I actually found a very reputable club in my village that has been around for years. Has alot of members. I am gonna go on sunday to have a go.

They said I may not be able to join this summer because they will be outdoors and with safety issues. That sucks.

Just followed the trail you left.:D

Bought an 07Darton Tempest extreme for my daughter, easiest bow to tune. Have you hefted one of those Hoyts? I picked one up once and thought holy cow that things heavy. It's a smaller bow by quietbit compared to my Hoyt protec and it's close to a pound lighter.. If you haven't picked one up you should first, little "Lass".:D

Oi less of the "little!" [8D]

There around 5 pounds, whatever that is you can convert. Doesn't sound like much, but it is noticable. It wasn't just me that thought it, I was with my brother at the time and we both commented on it. Around 4 pounds is alright for me. but even then it gets heavy. A bow for you could be less since it's a lighter poundage.

Your not just walking out and shooting, often time your fighting your way in in the dark and you have to hold the bow so it doesn't get caught on things that can hurt it, all slow enough not scare the game away while carring all the other gear needed.

Hmm, I am really not sure which bow manufacturer would suit me then [&:]

I am going to my local archery club on sunday to talk and try out some bows.

Do you think I should stick to a cheaper youth bow? Though I have $550 to spend i would like to get something well made that is light and quiet that will last a long while

That kind of money will buy almost any top end bow that's a year old. Ya got to know what fits you though. Keep in mind that's just the bow. I've bought some youth bows, I wouldn't go that route if your done growing.

The next needed expense is the arrows. Don't skimp on those, has to be the biggest frustration for new shooters. They may shoot well and have their equipment tuned well but the arrowswon't go where they're supposed to. Not knowing what's wrong everythings wrong for them and nothing goes un touched. With bad arrows small mistakes are magnified, good arrows will help the new archer work on what needs to be perfected.

Acc. after that can run hundreds as well.
